Mangaluru: Four youths from Hassan feared drowned at Someshwar

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Four youths have been feared drowned in sea at Someshwar beach, Ullal here on Sunday February 14.


Sahil and Sadiq (safe)

Mohammed Haneef (24), Mohammed Suhaid (23), Imran Pasha (24) and Shahid Kaleem (25) were washed away while swimming in the sea.

Two others, Sahil and Sadiq were able to swim ashore to safety.

All the six are from Hassan. It is said the group of six friends had come to Ullal by three bikes and had planned to visit the Dargah. Before going to the Dargah, they went to Someshwar beach for a swim.

Local swimmers and fire personnel rushed to the spot and search is on to find the missing youths.

Ullal police have registered a case.

    A terrible tragedy where four precious lives were lost in the sea. Luckily, two from that group survived. May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace an give comfort to the bereaved families and loved ones. Of late we hear of many lives lost in the sea. It was due to rough sea and some of them did not know swimming.

    please have lifeguards and laws that are enforced.
    I am familiar with that area and I have seen way too many tragedies happen. It is very traumatizing to see this and hear about it.

    One of my classmates Sunil and his cousin drowned there when I was in St Aloysious . He was a bright and brilliant kid.

    There has to be safeguards in place like designated swimming zones away from the rocks and boundries built with ropes and nets.
    Also this part of the sea is more prone to rip currents and nobody can help drowning people .

    please educate and have safeguards.
    May the families have the strength to bear the loss .

    Life guards were present on both sides of the beach.. blowing whistles and requesting people to bet away from the water and not to go further.. Someshwar is not a safe place to have fun.. Yesterday the the sand bench was very steep...

    I was present yesterday when this incident happened..

    Buddhi jeevis hardly listen to them... and this is the outcome..

    Oh god yesterday we read about youth dying at Mandya a medical graduate. Today one more sad news. Youngsters all I can say is stay away from water if you dont know swimming. I am really upset over this issue Feeling miserable.
