Mangaluru: Agnesian Alumni reunite at their Alma Mater

Mangaluru, Feb 15: Every year the Agnesian Alumni from across the world gathers to meet at their Alma Mater. This year with the theme 'Purple' an enthusiastic bunch of students met and enjoyed the day along with memories from their student life.








The Agnesian Day at home was held on February 7 at St Agnes College in the city. The formal programme began with a meaningful prayer song sung by Patra and group. This was followed by observing a minute of respectful silence for the repose of the soul of Sheila Fernandes, a former member of the executive Committee.

Roopa Laxmi Rao welcomed the gathering with an impressive dance number.

The AGM began with principal of the college and the president of the alumnae association, Sr M Supriya, AC welcoming the gathering of Agnesians. Saramma Jayaraj – secretary, presented the annual report with an impressive Power Point presentation; and Cheryl Prithika presented the accounts statement for the year 2015-2016.

Chief guest of the day Sr Aloysius AC– erstwhile principal was cordially welcomed by Sr M Supriya, principal.

This was followed by the election of the new office-bearers for the year 2016-2017.

The chief guest Sr Aloysius was honored for her dedicated and selfless service in the field of education and social service. A special mention was made of her service after superannuation, in Kenya amongst the downtrodden and those who live in dire poverty. She was presented with a shawl, citation, flowers and a bowl of fruits by the principal, Sr Supriya, vice-principal, Sr Jeswina, vice-president, Usha Fernandes, and former principal, Sr Olivia AC. The beautifully worded citation was prepared and read out by Charlotte Mascarenhas.

Entertaining group games were conducted by Nayana Hegde and Patra Saldanha. After a sumptuous lunch two games of housie were conducted.

Usha Fernandes, concluded the formal proceedings with an apt vote of thanks. Zeena Machado compered the official proceedings. Usha Fernandes and Edith D’Souza entertained the group with a graceful dance. The presence of three alumni from the 1954 batch was an added attraction. The executive committee meet on a regular basis and plan activities for the year including social activities, women’s day etc. The Agnesian alumni page can also be found on social media.
