Padubidri: National Award Recipient George Castelino Felicitated

Padubidri, Udupi Sep 18: “We hear that during the good old days teachers were very much respected. This could be evident in the crowning ceremony of King Alexander the Great. Only after honouring his teacher he ascended the thrown. Even today teachers have a great respect in the society” said Prof. Alban Rodrigues, Principal of Dandateertha Pre-University College and former Principal of St. Mary’s P. U. College, Shirva.
He was speaking after honouring Nakre George Castelino, the Headmaster of Sri Mahalingeshwara Aided Hr. Pry. School, Nakre, Karkala, who is the recipient of prestigious National Teacher Award. This programme arranged by H. R. Alva, Proprietor of Maria Advertisers and Mariads Prakashan, Mangalore was held at Pingara Hall, Padubidri (Udupi Dist.) on 16th Septemeber.

Prof. Alban further said that George not only paid justice to his teaching profession but also he strived hard to literate people of his surrounding, to get rid of blind beliefs through his shows and actively participated in many more activities of his locality. Prof Alban hailed the services of George to the teacher fraternity by arranging seminars, workshops etc. He also appreciated Georges’s services at the famous St Lawrence Shrine, Attur – Karkala especially during the annual festival.
Prof Rodrigues observed that our Community should recognize and honour great achievers. He urged the Diocese of Mangalore, the Catholic Sabha, the Sandesha Foundation and others to recognize George in a big way.
George had been honoured with a Silk Shawl, garland, fruits, Mysore peta and the recently published book of "Moje CYM Dees" in which George has introduced the author H. R. Alva.
Reena (Fernandes) Castelino, Wife of George Castelino, who is also a teacher was honoured in the same function.
Social Activist of Kaup and LIC Divisional DO Association General Secretary Vishwanath K introduced George. National Teacher Awardee (2003) and the Headmaster of Belle Church Aided Hr. Pry. School, Raphael Aranha delivered the felicitation talk. Christine Fernandes, Mother-in law of George greeted him by presenting a bouquet.
H. R. Alva welcomed the gathering. Concepta (Fernandes) Alva, Programme Executive of All India Radio, Mangalore compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
