Udupi: Excise dept files 53 cases against sale of liquor during election

Udupi, Feb 22: The department of excise has registered 53 cases of sale of liquor in Udupi in violation of zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat election code of conduct.

In all, 24 cases of consumption of liquor in unauthorized places, one case of illegal trafficking of Goan liquor, five cases of sale of tax paid liquor have been identified. 

As many as 27 people have been arrested. 36,575 litres tax paid liquor, 5,200 litres tax paid beer, 36 litres of Goan non tax paid liquor, goods rickshaw illegally used for liquor transport and Honda Activa scooter have been seized, as per sources from deputy directorate of excise.
