Bantwal, Feb 25: In a tragic incident which occurred at Ira village in the taluk on Wednesday February 24, a woman accidentally slipped and fell into the well when drawing water. Babita (24), currently residing at Kinnigoli, lost her life in the accident which took place at Darkhas, Ira.

Babita, who was born and brought up at Darkhas, Ira, had married a man from Kinnigoli four years back. She had come to her parental home along with husband and two-year-old child, for participating in the annual Somanatheshwara car festival at Ira. Babita's husband had returned to Kinnigoli on Tuesday and she was scheduled to go back to her husband's home on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, Babita approached the well without compound wall, located about 50 metres away from her mother's home, to draw water. When she was drawing water, the wooden beam supporting the rotarwheel snapped and Babita fell into the well with the pitcher and instantly lost her life.

Locals rushed to the spot and someone even went down the well in an effort to save Babita's life. She was brought out and taken to hospital, where doctors said it was too late to save her.
