Bengaluru, Feb 25: Chairperson of Karnataka Urdu Academy, Dr Fouzia Choudhary (62) suddenly collapsed on the dais when a programme was going on the city on the evening of Wednesday February 24. She later was found to have passed away on the spot.

Dr Fouzia was taking part in a programme organized in the library hall of the academy at Kannada Bhavana on J C Road. At around 5.30 pm, when she suddenly fell to the ground, upon which she was taken to St Martha's Hospital in an ambulance. The doctors confirmed on arrival at the hospital that she was no more.

The 'Hasil-e-Mutalia' programme that was in progress had participants like senior IAS officer, Chiranjeevi Singh, among others.

Fouzia was from Timmapura village in Yadagiri district. She was serving as the head of Urdu department in the home science college in the city, when she opted for voluntary retirement for personal reasons. She was appointed as chairperson of Karnataka Urdu Academy on June 2, 2014. She laid emphasis on Urdu literature, and towards giving a boost to Urdu, organized programmes frequently in schools and colleges. She also was credited with launching new programmes to give a boost to Urdu, besides authoring several Urdu works.

Minister for municipalities and local bodies, Qamarul lIslam, visited the house of the deceased dignitary at Frazer Town here, among others, and consoled the bereaved family.
