Mangaluru, Feb 27: “To abolish the manual scavenging and to provide rehabilitation as per the prohibition of employment as manual scavenging and their rehabilitation act 2013, Rural development and Panchayath Raj department of State government will be holding the survey on Safaikarmacharies (Manual scavenging) in rural area of Daskhina Kannada Zilla Panchayat,” said deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim.

DC Ibrahim was addressing the press meet at his office here on Saturday February 27.

“Taluk committee has been appointed and team consists of PDO, Gram panchayat secretary and also one representative from NGO who works against manual scavenging under the initiative of Tahshildar. The survey will be conducted from February 29 to April 19, 2016. After the survey in gram panchayat level, panchayat president will forward the report to the CEO of Zilla Panchayat for approval and it will be submitted to district administration.”

“The report will emphasize on complete abolishment of manual scavenging and provide rehabilitation,” he added.
Speaking about illegal sand mining, he said, “In the CRZ, 19 blocks have been identified where illegal sand mining is going on. Presently sand mining in CRZ areas is banned. And clearance should be obtained from NGT, Mouf and Environment Impact Assessment from the state.”

“E-tender has been called to mine sand in non-CRZ area and already three blocks have been identified. February 29, 2016 will be the last date to register for bidding the tender,” he added.
