Kasargod, Feb 29: Y Sudhir Kumar Shetty, president of UAE Exchange, known for his philanthropy and concern for the poor, was honoured with 'Huttooru Prashasti' in a programme at his native town Enmakaje in Manjeshwar here on Sunday, February 28.
Lauding Sudhir Shetty, Sri Yogananda Saraswati Swamiji of Kondevoor Math said, "The society always respects and honours people with pure hearts. Sudhir Kumar is one such personality in our society.
"A person reaches his peak when he makes good use of his wealth through charity. Sudhir Kumar has become a noble example by making use of his stature and position for the betterment of society," he added.
Perla Nalanda College principal Dr K Kamalaksha congratulated Sudhir Shetty and said, "Sudhir Kumar has shown us how to live an honourable and noble life. Being at the helm of affairs of an organization spread throughout the world, he has successfully shouldered the challenging responsibility and achieved great success. He has proved that one who gives selflessly will always be blessed."
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said, "Sudhir Kumar Shetty has become an example to society by helping the poor and the downtrodden. He is a proud son of the country."
Parish priest of Bela Mother of Sorrows Church Fr Vincent D'Souza and Archarya Rajendra Swami blessed the occasion.
Sudhir Kumar Shetty was felicitated by various organizations with shawls and mementos.
Acknowledging the honour, Sudhir Kumar Shetty said that he was able to reach this position due to blessings from his parents, teachers, people in his native town and the almighty. "As I was born and brought up in a poor family, I know the hardships of people. I have only done my duty by helping the poor."

At the beginning of the programme, Sudhir Shetty was escorted from the school premises to the stage in a procession.
Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak inaugurated the programme. Welcome committee president J S Somashekar presided.
Thousands of people were present in the programme. Malayalam film comedian Harishree Ashok and group presented a musical programme on the occasion.
