Mangaluru, Mar 1: Karnataka State Tailors Association (KSTA) held a huge protest on Tuesday, March 1 in front of the DC's office here to fulfil the demand of continuation of provident fund. The mentioned provident fund was stopped by central government recently. A procession was taken from Shanthinilaya ground, Balmatta to the place of the protest.

Vasanth B, state president of KSTA said “KSTA ,a state level organization, was started by the state government back in 1999 in order to provide social security to the tailors. We have been demanding for the formation of 'Tailors Provident Fund Board' with both state and central governments. They are more than 10 lac tailors in unorganised sector. Responding to our demand, the current state government has formed the unorganized labourers’ social security board. Through this board necessary steps were taken for the commencement of provident fund. This scheme is applicable to the unorganized labourers from 18 to 60 years of age. According to this scheme if a member deposits Rs 1200 per annum (100 every month), state government will contribute Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,000 will be contributed by the central government. "

But the current central government with the view to stop this scheme has withheld the registration of new members from April 2015. Central government is also forcing the members below 40 years of age to join in Atal pension scheme and members above 40 years are withheld from joining this schema as well. There are about 10,000 tailors in Karnataka state who have enrolled in this scheme. So through KSTA we demand the state government to demand the central government to continue with the old scheme.

Praveen Salian, member KSTA, Lions D Kishore Shetty, Krishnappa Salian, Sujatha Jogi and others were present.
