Mangaluru: Airport director urges passengers to ignore rumours

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 3: Director of the international airport here, J T Radhakrishna, has urged the airport users not to lend credence to misinformation campaign going on about security, immigration and traffic management at the airport here, noting that unscrupulous elements have been engaged in the task of spreading baseless rumours about the airport.

"There are no concerns either in security or passenger verification. Everything is moving smoothly, and this airport has been ranked fifth in the consumer satisfaction index among 55 tier-2 airports in the country. Still, unfortunately the task of confusing the customers through systematic malicious campaign is on," he noted.

He said that any of the passengers who encounter any problem at the airport here can immediately contact terminal duty manager of the airport, who is available round the clock, for redressal. In addition, boards have been provided in the terminal building of the airport where complaints from the public are accepted. Telephone numbers and email IDs for contact in case of grievances have also been provided there. Passengers can make use of these facilities in case of problems, he explained.

Radhakrishna also added that in case of need, passengers can use rest rooms at the airport, and that they are free to contact following telephone numbers for regitration of complaints or get guidances in case of exigencies.

Terminal duty manager, Airports Authority of India: 0824 - 2220422, 9449005201.

CISF (airport security) control room: 0824 - 2220418.

I would like to just make it clear that Mangaluru International Airport has been operating smoothly for so many years without any hitch.but how come now this issue...even if the Kannur Airport has begun its operations the Customs, Immigration pople will be the same there too...Its not that they are being hired from gulf or overseas...the checking and the security and screening is followed the same as at Mangaluru International Airport Then where does the problem lie.The customs and the immigration are doing thier duty as per the proceedures. So Mangaloreans be strong and support this Airport

    Dear Mr. T. Radhakrishna...
there is always room for improvement in services provided by airport authorities and it is your duty to keep working hard to attain that...
one more thing Kannur airport will start functioning from end of this year. The passenger flow will be reduced and no doubt some smuggler change their root. there will be less headache as far as customs is concerned. But please inform to local passengers like me WHAT IS THE STATUS OF RUNWAY EXTENSION so that more international flights land in mangalore. There is long waiting demand for a direct flight from RIYADH to MANGALORE what happened to it. I think now Kannur airport will start functioning this request will become NULL and VOID.
Please note if mangalore airport accommodate more international flights then only it can grow and implement latest facilities.....

I am a regular traveller from New York to Mangaluru via Mumbai, but so far I have had no problems whatsoever. Many times I travelled alone and sometimes with my family. Only once I had a problem, as one of my baggage was missing but finally after half an hour I found it. It was due to some idiot, who took my baggage by mistake and put it outside.

There is a nexus between the taxi mafia and the Airport authorities in Mangalore.

It is to be noted that some locals are allowed to bring and park their cars near the arrival gate. How and why are they allowed ?

    Sir,

Mangalore is the only International airport where every outgoing passenger bound for resident is frisked.

Secondly,Custom official kept outdated manual on the sealing of allowed Gold limit for male/female passengers.

Infrastructure is pathetic,it seems like raining inside as well.

Sector is overcharged by all airlines.
Staff is only good for baggage checking.Customer service is absolute zero.Airport tax is not worth enough for toilet service.

Overhaul experience 1 and half star out of 5.

    Dear Sirs,

Thank you for the above communication / information.
Few years ago when the baggage used to be manually picked and delivered to conveyor belt, it used to take mere 10 to 15 minutes. Since things have been automated in the last 2 to 3 years, I have observed that we the passengers are made to wait for minimum 45 minutes with frustration for the baggage to appear on conveyor belt though there is hardly any traffic. If you can look into the situation and improvise please. Thanks.

extreme customs checking especially in this airport has provided some good rank or prize to this airport as its heard in some sources.Any rules or legality without humanity means its another face of failure.Working in gulf doesn't mean that we just work hardly 200 days in year as practiced in india. The effort in the gulf contains professionalism with least flexible environment but reward guaranteed. So nobody want loose their income by bribing the some corrupt officials. The airport management must keep changing the customs handling staff regularly.OTHERWISE AIRPORT WILL GET PRIZE SIMILARLY LIKE A GOVT COLLEGE GETS HUNDRED PERCENT RESULT IN PUBLIC EXAM BUT WITH JUST ONE STUDENT ONLY APPEARED FOR THAT EXAM.can anybody say its an achievement

Dear Mr. Radhakrishna, we welcome your clarification however it's a known fact and my own experience in the last 2-3 years that the Customs Officers at Mangalore Airport are very rude and not seems to be Professional. They harass the passengers for everything. I travel for every 3-4 months and every time the customs officers are having a trouble with daily use ornaments / jewelery. As per them only if we stay abroad for 12 months then we are allowed to wear those ornaments. Does it means we should not come down frequently just for the craze of your customs officers.?
Similarly when we travel through Mumbai and Bangalore Airport there is no issue with the same ornaments.
Also the Customs Officers at Mangalore Airport are rude and they don't know how to talk to passengers. They harass the passengers for no reason as well.

Also it will be better if you can keep away the helpers at the conveyor belt so that we can avoid the irritation from them.

First of all.In spite of security Passengers till date carry:
    Smuggled Goods..Gold etc..
use this directly for the improvement and building capacity of the airport...
Go and check airports round the world like in Japan..London..Amsterdam..Chicago..dxb.
you will have an idea how to run a airport professionally..smoothly like Waves in the ocean ..smooth flow...no congestion...
    bottle necks..
Induct state of art.. Security /customs.inspection.. machines..
Let there be no crowding outside.. and the TAXI..SURFACE transport be well disciplined and organized.
    Induct AIRPORT TAXIS/AIRPORT SHUTTLES/BUSES..
Plan even a Metro for the future.

Try to understand the pain of NRI. We proud to say that we are Mangalorean coz of this few corrupt custom officer will spoil our Mlr airport name pls. do take serious action. pls keep you spy behind the officer and exchange counter. again i am saying here we wont get any free or easy money we struggle lot Day night to earn n save.

i am from Udupi and and frequent fliers to few destinations around the globe and to my home town vai mangaluru, and I am using managluru airport from last 15 years and I am one among other passengers from gulf to enjoy the direct flights which reduced our hassle traveling with 3 kids via mumbai. But from last two years I have faced twice harassment from customs officials on the daily use ornaments of my wife. There argument was we should complete minimum a year to be eligible where as we travel every 3 or 4 months whenever we get holidays for kids or any business trip, then how we can take our daily use ornaments and we cannot stay more than a year just to fulfill their demand, where as they dont have any mechanism to log the details that we have not allowed to carry a single bangle in last tow years.either they should allow or keep records that a passenger can bring once in a year despite of his interval travels and shall not harass the passengers.

    Dear Sachidanand Shettre:
Wait for few months. Cananor(Kannor) Airport is going to open. then you will not find a single outsiders(those who are having 3-4 Intl airports) in our airport. And because of this, may be airlines will reduce the Gulf-Mangalore flights to twice or thrice a week.
Because of them at least our Mangalore airport is busy now a days.

I don’t think so any of our regional Passengers encountered any problem in our Mangalore International Airport….. Few outside passengers might have experienced some type of problem but that was self-committed and we are not happy to see them since they have 3 or 4 International Airports but still they come to our place why???? Two years back I asked one such Immigration Officer why one person was forced to sit back inside the Immigration area and he firmly answered me that this person Passport address is his native place and he is damn sure that no such person is staying nearby!!!! It means Passport address is fake and that person is not belongs to our area.

Hi Sachidanand, if a passport is fake or real its subject to Immigration officers scrutiny. As a citizen of india any one can land anywhere in the country. If there is a suspicion they ask questions to clarify. No one says that its a regional airport. Its an international Airport and we should welcome all the people who would wish to travel but this airport this is how we can grow,Airport can grow & We get more flights more cargo and economy will grow. Yes if a person passing through is law abiding or not its subject of competent authority like customs officers /Immigration offices or CISF leave it to them. This is same in all the airports. Our thought should be how we grow not how we create restrictions.

If the Agents are doing any malpractices then what the Police officers and Passport authorities are doing ???/ so you have to admit the malpractices done by the police also..... now we have a good example, how the police are slapping sedition charges and torturing on the basis of Fabricated videos...... God save india....

For your kind information more than 50% international passengers are from our neighboring state of Kerala. Kannur International Airport will be open after 6 months then see the difference in passengers.
