Udupi, Mar 3: At a press meet on Thursday March 3, Ashfakh Ahmed, president of district Muslim unit, here condemned the statement by Uttara Kannada district MP Ananth Kumar Hegde. Ahmed said that, the MP must retrieve his sentence regarding the Muslim community and should apologize to them. The statement hurts the unity of citizens under the Indian Constitution and hurts the secular system.

Anant Kumar at a recent press conference had allegedly stated, "For as long as Islam exists in the world, no one can stop terrorism. If we want to keep a place like Bhatkal peaceful, then Islam should be eradicated from the world."

"Even fascist Hitler never had such intentions, but MP Kumar harbours enmity with the Muslims. He is trying to light a spark of communalism in the Coastal area," said Ahmed. "Anant is not a representative of any particular religion or caste. Inspite of that, he exceeded his limits, taking advantage of his position as the people’s representative."

"The committee demands a probe into the matter," he added.

He also said that it provokes communal conflict in coastal areas.

Salahuddin Abdulla, member of the committee said that it will lead to polarisation of communism among people.

Kasim Barkur, chief secretary and others were present.
