Bengaluru, Mar 4: It is learnt that a number of MPs and MLAs from the state have told national BJP president, Amit Shah, of their opinion that giving state presidentship of BJP to Yeddyurappa is most desirable.

In the recent past, several state leaders of the BJP met Amit Shah at New Delhi to impress upon him the need to reinstate Yeddyurappa as state BJP president because of his strong leadership qualities, popularity, and rich experience. In the recent past, Amit Shah had expressed his opinion that in the intrests of the party in Karnataka, giving leadership to an individual instead of adopting collective leadership would be more apt. Thereafter, there is overwhelming opinion in favour of Yeddyurappa, who has been credited with bringing BJP to power first time in south India and in Karnataka.

At the core committee meeting of the party held at New Delhi a week back, the issue came up for discussion. Shah suggested at the meeting to first appoint state president for the party before beginning the process of appointing district presidents, duly expressing satisfaction at the party's performance in the panchayat elections. A senior party leader said that the issue of appointing state president will gain momentum after the Lok Sabha session comes to an end.

Some sources said that a few of the leaders expressed their personal opinions to continue Prahlad Joshi as BJP state president for the present, and to make Yeddyurappa president of the election committee during assembly election, and then make him the chief minister after declaration of result. But Shah feels that a single, strong leader should lead the party in the state in place of collective leadership.

Shah has been collecting detailed information about the performance of Karnataka government, disputes and scams it is associated with, including Lokayukta controversy and watch issue.
