Doha: Serandeep B emerge champions at IBQ tournament

Doha, Mar 4: At the 11th IBQ Masters Cricket Tournament 2016 – Division II, Serandeep-B had a nail biting victory over Gulf Lights winning by 1 wicket off the second last ball.




































At the finals prize distribution ceremony Bacchu Nazareth, manager Electronic Banking and Cedric, assistant relationship manager financial institutions of IBQ were the chief guests.

Winning the toss Gulf Lights elected to bat and were all out for 121 runs in 16.3 overs. Hamid was outstanding scoring 33 runs with 5 sixes off 13 balls and was bowled out by Prakash. Azhar was bowled out by Hassan for 21 runs with a six and a boundary and Wahid contributed 19 runs with a six and 2 boundaries.

Hassan bowled well to claim 4 wickets, Bandula took 2 wickets while Janaka, Upul, Chanaka and Prakash took a wicket each.

In reply Serandeep-B as per the tournament rules was penalized 2 overs less for having one batsman less while batting. So they had to score 122 runs in 18 overs.

Good bowling restricted Serandeep-B to 55 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the first 10 overs. Some lusty hitting by Prakash saw them cruising to victory. But Prakash was bowled by Tajuddin for 47 runs including 6 sixes and a boundary off 24 balls. Serandeep-B needed 12 runs off the last over. Upul hit 2 sixes to carry the team to victory remaining not out on 24 runs with 2 sixes off 18 balls.

Serandeep-B totaled 124 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 17.5 overs.
Tajuddin bowled excellently to claim 3 wickets, while Samed, Wahid, Azhar, Arif. M. and Altaf took a wicket each.

The following were declared best of the tournament:
Best batsman         : Prakash of Serandeep-B
Best bowler            : Mohsin of Metabo
Best all rounder      : Tajuddin of Gulf Lights
Best wicketkeeper  : Sanjay OF QVC

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by supporters and well wishers. Over 300 prizes were given away to various players at the tournament.

Prize distribution ended with complimentary refreshments and a lucky draw for spectators.
