Mangaluru, Mar 4: As many as 30 specialists rushed to 'rescue' a train coach that 'derailed' at Goodushedde in Pandeshwar here on Friday March 4.

The 'rescue operation' was part of a mock drill conducted by the Palakkad railway division, Mangaluru, to test the preparedness of specialists and other teams in the event of an emergency.

The mock drill was held on the instructions of the Railway Board.

Under the supervision of assistant divisional mechanical engineer Subramanyam and area officer Bhupathi Raja, an old coach of a train was derailed, and immediately, 30 breakdown specialists swung to action. Working hand in hand, they demonstrated how to rescue passengers and put the coach back on track.

An accident relief train (ART) that consists of equipment for restoration, medical van, rescue devices and electrical cutting equipment also rushed to the spot. However, the medical team was not part of the mock drill.

The drill that began in the morning concluded late afternoon.
