Udupi, Mar 4: "The semester results of first grade colleges under Mangalore University are out. Both students and teachers are perplexed with the delayed as well as erroneous results. While students who usually pass have failed, those who have not appeared for the examinations have passed," alleged students Prashasti and Ram Ganesh.

Addressing a press meet, they said that some students have secured zero marks and that there are several other confusions. "The students have decided to protest in front of Mangalore University if the university does not take suitable action. The first, second and third year semester results are displayed in the Mangalore University website. Though the examinations were held in October, the results were announced only on February 22. BA degree results are still not declared.

"Some students who have always excelled have failed due to irresponsible valuation and confusion in the university. Students who have secured good marks in internals have failed and those who have not answered the examination have secured marks. Some students who have answered the examination have secured zero marks. If we enquire with the University about it over the phone, we only receive evasive replies and the college principals too are unable to do anything about it," they said.

"Requests for revaluations can be submitted only after receiving marksheets. A shadow of uncertainty is troubling the students who are worried what they would do if the same results were to be reflected in the marksheets," they said. Several college students gave details about the marks secured by them through national student parents' association and warned of protests in front of the university if the confusion is not set right within a week.

"On the whole, the students are in distress and some rank students have also secured low marks. Some of those who have answered the examinations are marked as absent," they said.

I am surprised to read this news because after the evaluation the team leader checks again the scripts at least few pages of the answer paper. How come such big error happen which went unnoticed? Secondly a very good student can not fall drastically in one semester unless something went wrong abruptly. Most students think that their answers are all correct but may not be relevant. The college authority should support the students if they are right instead of going to the press. Some pictures reveal that all are not the students. Hope the college and university authorities correct the mistake and publish the corrected result.

University and the lecturers who evaluate answer paper can not do like this. This is a question of life/future of a student who has put efforts to the best of his/her ability. Such errors must be condemned and the guilty must be punished.

One look at the picture and one can safely say that these students are not the hard working type!. They are just generalizing and extrapolating things!. Also feel that I have seen these students in protests by ABVP at many places!. Udupi and Mangalore there are so many colleges and I have not heard these type of allegations from students there!. Better ABVP should help these students by calling a bandh!. Anyone who joins ABVP, PFI or NSUI are doomed!

It is unbelievable that such stupid errors happened in Mangalore University results. A thorough inquiry should should be taken as some deserving students are heartbroken with such results. Who is responsible for this error.
