Mangaluru: CCB police arrest absconding accused, thwart murder

Mangaluru, Mar 5: A person, who had been evading appearance in several court cases, and had remained underground, has been arrested by the CCB police. The accused, identified as Talhat, also had plotted to murder a person near Faisalnagar, Bajal in the city, city crime branch police, who arrested the man, said.

The police were tipped about a few persons, already facing charges of involvement with communal clashes, murder attempt, and murder cases at various police stations, who have also not been appearing in the hearings of their cases, having come together. They came to know that these persons, numbering four to five, were hatching a plan to undertake criminal activity at Faisalnagar, which falls in the jurisdiction of the rural police station here.

On the basis of this information, a police team led by CCB inspector, Valentine D'Souza, raided the spot supported by a team of policemen. They arrested Talhat (28) from Faisalnagar from the spot, and recovered from his possession a dragon knife.

Talhat, it is learnt, faces 15 cases, most of which relate to destruction of public property and assault on frivolous grounds. He faces about of 12 of these cases registered since 2004 at rural police station alone. Eight of these cases are before courts, but Talhat has not been attending hearings since the last couple of years, it is said. He also faces allegation of murdering Abdurrahman Sanaputta from Kannur in 2011 along with some others, and of involvement with a case pertaining to the murder of the manager of Kanchana Textiles in 2012, which falls under city north police station limits.

CCB police have handed over the arrested accused to rural station for further action.
