Bhatkal, Mar 5: Opposition to inflammatory utterances of Uttara Kannada MP, Anant Kumar Hegde, is gaining momentum everywhere. Condemning his remarks, various Muslim organizations have given call for district bandh on Saturday March 5. As a measure of precaution, deputy commissioner of the district, Ujwal Kumar Ghosh, has issued prohibitory order under Section 144 from 6 am to 10 pm.

The district administration has placed blanket ban on holding of processions, formation of crowds, making announcements through microphones etc, duly warning that violations would be dealt with strictly.

Bhatkal-based Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem has given a call for district bandh, demanding immediate arrest of Hegde for his anti-Muslim tirade. It has asked all concerns and educational institutions being run by Muslims to remain closed for the day. General secretary of the organization, Altaf Mohiddin Kharoori, said that Muslim community would be holding protests at various places and submit petitions to the government urging the arrest of Hegde. He further stated that unless Hegde is arrested by Friday evening, Muslims will symbolically down their shutters and observe bandh to register their protest.

Areas within Bhatkal, dominated by Muslims, have worn deserted look since morning. Muslim contractors from the town have declared holiday for all the workers including non-Muslims. Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem has asked Muslims not to venture out of their houses. Security has been beefed up in the town, with over 500 police personnel manning areas in and around the town. Even two-wheelers are off the roads. Normal life stays paralyzed.

Muslims have also called for bandh at Sirsi and Haliyal in Uttara Kannada and Gangolli, Shiroor and other places in Kundapur taluk. Jamiya Ahale Hadees has been supporting this bandh call. A delegation of Muslims will go in a procession at 11 am to the office of the deputy superintendent of police at Sirsi to file complaint against the MP, it is gathered.

In the meanwhile, M G Naik, district president of BJP, has criticized Tanzeem for its action, reminding the organiation that the MP enjoys freedom of expression. He pointed out that when severe criticism was heaped by vested interested against Hinduism, Congress had supported the concerned, claiming it to be freedom of expression. Taluk BJP president, K G Naik Hanajibail, addressing a press conference at Siddapur, said that this issue is being blown out of proportion unnecessarily. He felt that the state government has been backing these efforts.

Criticisms and condemnations against the MP's comments have poured in from various parts of the district including Karwar, Mundgold, Dandeli, and other places.

This ugly remarks by MP Anant Hegde has caused a lot of hardship for the residents and others in Bhatkal. Unless proper action is taken by the police, there will be unending trouble over there. I feel so sad that so many shops are closed and they have lost their business for that time. Even the fisher women are sitting idly with no customers around.

This is the game plan of RSS to divert the issues, see the price rise of pulses, farmers suicide, taxes, whether these MP/MLAs of BJP are not concerned with these issues which are most effected the standard of living of common people.Where all those slogans of BJP has gone, Bring back black money from swiss bank, punish the criminals, and hoarders, fight against corruption,ACHE DIN . The slogan shouting government could not deliver their promise.Instead of governing country ,as per Indian constitution they started dividing people though their elected MP/MLAs and other workers of party through out India. This divert plan of bjp from the main issues shows their failure to govern this country.

Specially for these kind of cheap low categorized MPs freedom of expression means destroy the peace of common peoples and break the brotherhood of Hindu_Muslims. Showing anger and giving false speeches against Islam it doesn't effect the reality and pureness of Islam. Freedom of Expression should be expressed up to the groups like RSS, VHP, HIzbul Mujahididn, ISIS, or any other organization which are involved in terrorism.
Could anybody tell me where did Hegde read that Islam supports terrorism? Such MPs should be sent to Iran and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the judgement.

..If Con#re#s took action on CHID# who coined saffron terror(terror has no religion!!) , this couldnt have happened..if state Con#res# govt didnt endorsed BAGW#N by awarding him for his noble work, this could have been averted..if District Con#res# leaders have commonsense and avoid inviting, or helping ZN to conduct program..then there will be a message for hate mongers..but sorry to say, in INDIA sadly the politicians, some media thinks only some community have religious sentiment..be fare, unbiased on all cases..automatically these incidents will come down..take action on every one irrespective of partyline..if you allow Dig#y,Chiddu so on to say what ever they want others will follow..let us not blow it out or exaggerated, let us not play in the hands of vote bank politics..
