Bengaluru, Mar 6 : Health minister U T Khader on Saturday revealed that the State government has decided to launch a cashless treatment plan for road accident victims from March 8 . The scheme has been named after Harish Nanjappa, a 23-year-old man who lost his life recently in an accident.

Braveheart Harish Nanjappa had made a wish that his organs be donated even as his body had been cut into two in an accident near Nelamangala in city.

Khader said that the new scheme 'Mukhyamantrigala Santwana' was planned to be launched on March 8. But now it has been renamed after Harish who inspired an organ donation movement in the state and became a role model.

Accident victims, under this scheme, are entitled to immediate cashless treatment for up to 48 hours with a maximum limit of Rs 25,000 at hospitals. The scheme provides assistance to all victims of road accidents across the state. The financial status and nationality of the victims are not considered for the scheme. Toll-free numbers, ‘108’ and ‘104’, have also been provided to report accidents. New software has been also created for the better implementation of the scheme.

Khader also said the accident victims will be able to receive treatment from a set of 25 treatment and ancillary packages. The packages were recommended by an expert committee. Treatment can be availed for simple injuries, complicated facial injuries, fractures, head injuries, burns-related injuries and blood transfusion among others.

Participating hospitals have been categorised as level 1, 2 and 3 trauma centres based on the facilities available.
