Chandigarh, Sep 24: Faced with financial crunch, a woman in Haryana's Hissar district has advertised in local newspapers to give away her two daughters for adoption so that they find a "good" home.

Anju Ahuja, the mother of the two girls, told NDTV that she was "very hard pressed" as otherwise "which mother would like to separate her children?”

"They (the daughters) will find a good home", added Anju whose husband died at her parents' house in mysterious circumstances.

After the husband's death, Anju's in-laws filed a case and she, along with her parents, was in jail briefly. However, after her release from prison, the going has been tough for her family.

Anju's father Harish Ahuja said the two daughters were sent to the house of their paternal grandfather who sent them back with the demand that they would keep them only in return for payment of Rs 50 lakh.

Even the local panchayat had asked Anju to cough up Rs 50 lakh, he claimed.

One of Anju's daughters said she wanted to stay with her mother and did not want to go to any other place.

Hissar SSP Srikant Jadhav visited the Ahuja family and told the media later that he tried to find out if the family had any hesitation in accepting the help from some people who have already contacted the police.
