Mangaluru: 19 colleges from across India to take part in SDM law fest 'Lex Ultima'

Mangaluru, Mar 7: Shree Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College (SDMLC) will be hosting a four-day national level law fest 'Lex Ultima '16' from March 10 to 13. In its current edition, the fest will involve the participation of 120 students from top 19 law colleges across the country. A combination of ten events have been lined up, which will test the legal prowess of the law students in a wide array of subjects from trial advocacy to legal fiction writing.

On March 8, as a run-up to the fest, the students of SDMLC will be conducting an awareness drive, emphasizing on the 'victory of law'. Vasudev Kamath, proprietor of Hotel Maya International along with Srinivas Deshpande, chief manager, public relations, Karnataka Bank Ltd will be launching the drive. Hoping to cover large ground, the drive will begin at 11:30 am from the premises of the college and will end at 12:30 pm, having spread awareness at several landmark locations like Hampankatta, Bendore, Bunts Hostel etc.

The law fest will be inaugurated by Prof (Dr) C S Patil, vice-chancellor of KSLU, Hubballi on March 10 at 11 am. Other dignitaries include Uma M G, principal district and sessions judge, Dakshina Kannada district presiding over the function, as well as S P Chengappa, president of Mangaluru Bar Association as the chief guest.

The college will also organise entertainment programmes during the first two days in the evening as part of the law fest. The programme will include cultural performances and dance shows. The event will be held in association with media partners Daijiworld, The Hindu and Red FM. The events will also feature cinema actresses like Sonal Monteiro and Raksha Shenoy. On March 11, regional general manager of The Hindu will be the special guest for the event.

The valedictory programme on March 13 at 2.30 pm will witness the distribution of prizes to the winners by Justice B Veerappa, judge of the high court of Karnataka. Justice P S Dinesh Kumar will address the students in his valedictory speech. The additional Solicitor General of India, K M Natraj will preside over the function with P P Hegde, former chairman and member of Karnataka State Bar Council as the guest of honour.
