Bantwal, Mar 8: Angered by the fact that Mangalore city corporation officials had demolished compound walls of three houses within Thumbe village without serving any advance notice, irate villagers from Thumbe, on Monday March 7, went in a protest march and mobbed the water treatment plant in their village from which water is supplied to Mangaluru and other places.

The compound walls were removed because they stood over the water pipeline leading to Mangaluru, it is gathered. However, the local gram panchayat has to be informed before undertaking any activity there. In this case, the city corporation officials had kept the gram panchayat, and also the families of Arif, Ashraf and Manorama, whose compound walls were brought down, in the dark, it is gathered. The protesters accused the officials of autocratic bahaviour.

The protesters came in a procession from Thumbe junction, and after reaching he plant, raised slogans against the officials. Former MLA., Padmanabha Kottary, zilla panchayat member, Raveedra Kambali, taluk panchayat member, Ganesh Suvarna, vice president of Thumbe gram panchayat, Praveen B, former gram panchayat president, Muhammed, and panchayat members participated in the protest.
