Kundapur, Mar 8: Pro Hindu activists waylaid a lorry carrying 13 local breed cows near Tallur Rajadi bridge on Tuesday, March 8. The lorry with cows was on its way from Pune to Neralakatte's byre (Goshala) near Bantwal. The activists assaulted the lorry driver and byre manager
As the lorry was waylaid, tension was created in the area. Some youth alleged that the cows were being transported illegally and went to assault even after explaining that the cows belonged to the byre and there had relevant records. Police who arrived at the scene had to resort to lathi charge.
The 13 cows of local Geer breed were being brought from Pune to the byre belonging to Bantwal Neralakatte resident Ananda Kamath. As the lorry reached near Tallur Rajadi bridge, a group of about 100 people waylaid the lorry and started an argument. They assaulted lorry driver Raghu and Kumar, a person connected with the byre. The people were not willing to look at the records.
Police seized 12 bikes and took into custody five people for assaults. The lorry and cows were taken to Kundapur police station. A tense situation prevailed in Tallur for long time. DySP Manjunath Shetty, Circle inspector Diwaker, Sudarshan, police inspector Nasir Hussain, Amasebail Police inspector Sunil and staff controlled the situation.

Smart move by the cops. If they arrest the Cow Protectors (CP's), then their Political Protectors (PP's) will create a scene in front of Police Station. Break a few gear shifts or piston rings and release the bikes. Hit them where it pains the most.

Pro Hindu activists or goondas? How they can take the law in their hands. If anything found illegal they have to approach police. We have legal system. I remember an earlier incident where a truck loaded with old cows from Rajastan, destined to Kerala, was involved. Of all states it passed through, there never was any news of it being waylaid but it surely got hurdles in Mangaluru. Similar is this case. These activists are like flies storming where a shit-smell emits. Good that the police detained them. Feed them dung and cow-urine for a week and then release them. They will remember to scrutinize records next time before branding any transport of cattle as cow-theft !
