Mangaluru, Mar 12: Superhit Tulu film 'Chaali Polilu', which has set new records in the regional film industry, is about to complete 500 days in theatre. The movie, produced by Prakash Pandeshwar under the banner of Jaya Kirana Films and directed by Veerendra Shetty Kavoor, was released on October 31, 2014.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday March 12, Prakash Pandeshwar said, "'Chaali Polilu' film successfully completed 75 days in five theatres, 100 days in three theatres and on Sunday March 13, it will complete 500 days. This is a record in the regional film industry.
"It is being screened for the second time in theatres like Prabhat in Mangaluru, Nataraj in Suratkal, Nakshatra in BC Road, Aruna in Puttur, and Amarashree in Moodbidri. There is also a demand for a third screening in Moodbidri and Puttur," he added.
Deepak Gangadhar, in-charge of PVR Cinema where the film is still being screened, said, "The film is getting response even after 500 days, with a 54.39 percent occupancy in theatres. More than 33,000 people have watched this movie in PVR so far. No film in Karnataka has run for 500 days.
Giving examples of craze for the movie, he said, "One person from Subramanya came to the theatre in wheelchair. He had been admitted to the government hospital here and soon after getting discharged, he came to the theatre. In another case, an entire marriage party came to watch the movie."
Prakash Pandeshwar added, "A boy from Bantwal has watched this movie 27 times. This film is generating revenue to the theatres. It has also won eight awards. I urge people to support my next movie 'Dabak Dabaa Aisa', which is also a good movie with comedy and social message."
Veteran Tulu actor Devdas Kapikad said, "This film has created a magic in the Tulu film industry. This is the only film in the regional industry that has run for so long. 'Chaali Polilu' has succeeded in meeting the expectations of the people. 'Chandi Kori' movie is also running from 169 days."
