Invitation controversy: MLA changes stand- Hindu organisations firm

Updated

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Mar 17: MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, who had demanded on Tuesday for the removal of district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim's name from the invitations relating to the ten-day annual festival of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple beginning on April 10, changed her stance all of a sudden. Taking a U-turn, she said that the invitations would be reprinted only if the court directs the temple to do so.

The MLA, who herself happens to be a lawyer, had said that inclusion of the names of non-Hindus in invitations is not permitted as per law. She sought to clarify the matter by claiming that she had not called for any meeting on this controversy. Citing that as per rules, presence of Hindu officials is needed only during puja and rituals, she said that court orders if any on the issue would be obeyed, as certain organizations have referred the issue to the court.

In the meanwhile, a meeting of devotees held in the temple complex by pro-Hindu outfits on Wednesday asserted that the invitations have to be reprinted, duly deleting the name of the deputy commissioner. The devotees have also set deadline to the temple management to fall in line with their demand. They have also given call for holding a protest in the town on Thursday.

Leader of Hindu organizations, Arun Kumar Puttila, said that a procession would be taken from the temple premises to mini Vidhal Soudha, after which protest will staged there. If the authorities fail to act, stronger measure including road blockade would be held on March 19. Sri Rajashekharananda Swamiji of Gurpur Vajradehi Math will be present, he added. If the district administration fails to act, call for observing bandh in the city will be given, he warned.

Municipal councilor, Rajesh Bannur, pointed out that those from other religions or people not having faith in this temple cannot find mention in the invitation. He criticized officials for not convening meeting of temple devotees as per tradition, and instead, conducting a meeting at their own accord. He also criticized the deputy commissioner for justifying inclusion of his name in the invitation. He warned that the district administration would be responsible for untoward incidents which might occur as a consequence of its stand.

Several Hindu leaders were present. Muralikrishna Hasantadka of Bajrang Dal said that the organizations are not against any individual, but that they are demanding to stick to the tradition of the temple not to include names of non-Hindus in the invitations.

In the meanwhile, a meeting to discuss preparations for the festival was held on Wednesday. It was presided over by assistant commissioner. Temple executive officer, Jagadish, said that issues like hygiene, security, transport, water, lighting, and other facilities came up for discussion at this meeting, but the issue of invitation did not crop up.

Bengaluru, Mar 16: Even as the right-wing groups, especially some of the leaders of Sangh Parivar outfits, have been vocally critical of the mention of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim's name in the invitation of a Hindu temple for its function, the State Government has strongly backed the coastal district's deputy commissioner.

Karnataka's Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday, said the Deputy Commissioner is the administrative head of the entire district and naturally he heads all the temples coming under the Muzrai Department in the district, which are run by the State Government.

"Therefore, there is nothing wrong in the printing of the Deputy Commissioner’s name in the invitation card of the temple, merely because he does not belong to the same religion," the minister said and asserted that the State Government does not make any distinction of caste, creed or colour.

"The DC has done nothing wrong. He acted in his capacity as the Deputy Commissioner and as per the Muzrai Department’s rules," Jayachandra said.

Right-wing groups in the coastal district have demanded removal Ibrahim’s name from the invitation.

Ibrahim, however, explained that the invitation was brought out by the temple management and his name was mentioned as the administrative head of Muzrai temples in the district.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary also defended the deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim.

The Deputy Commissioner’s name has been printed in the invitation card of a temple programme in Puttur, he said, adding: "A B Ibrahim is also god's child. This is a secular state and the DC is the chief of the district Muzrai Department. What is wrong in printing his name in the invitation?"

Not only the Hindu Temples are cared by the Government. You are ignorant enough not knowing anything about Waqf Board. Waqf Board is a Government set up to look after accounts of several mosques and they spread their net covering many mosques every year, and keep proper accounts of the properties, rentals, donations etc.

I see there is overwhelming positive response clearly understanding the divisive mindset driven by a section that creates misunderstanding between friends, groups of people is the root cause of most of the violence that follows.

I take strong exceptions to the views expressed by a comment that states false God. This issue is not about God but bringing religion of DC as a issue by a small fraction of right wing organizations ( some of them literate and "educated").

My aversion to the right wing organizations is because of their myopic philosophy that believes in rigid religious doctrine and trying to recreate past glory(Good old days of pushpaka vimana?).

The goodness in our heart and respect for others allows us to break barriers and ignore frivolities. I guess Professor Puranik/Shenava and their henchmen are driven by a puritanical philosophy akin to the Egypt's outlawed organization.

This controversy because not having prper planning the temple event & unnecessarily pulling DC Sri Ibrahim's name.I personally feel that inclusion of DCs name is right as he is the supreme authority in the dist so temple admn comes under him. Moreover he is a non controversial person very graceful and liked by all. Caste, religion does not matter here.Hindus more particularly local leaders should have happy to have him as chief guest for annual celebration of the temple.Local MLA Shakunthala Shetty displayed immaturity and the problem.
Let the Hindu leaders ascertain from Mudarangady near Shiva in Udupi dist who is the prime person in Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava function every year since inception.Who made the event so much attractive which is attended, funded by all communities since years.I am ashamed for pulling DCs name unnecessarily. He is one of the best DC Mangalore has seen after Sri Ponnuraj.

Religious functions are private affair, it should always be upto their religious authorities whether to invite or not, and take part or not.
Eg, we Catholics accommodate if others coming to our church,
but we don't give our communion. (somewhat similar to prasad)
It's prohibited as per our religion to give communion to others! According to us others shouldn't receive it.
In the same way, some of us may go to Temple, some may not go.
But many will not take Prasad offered to their God.
Like that Parsee's don't take others into their Temple.
It's upto them. We should learn to respect each others custom.

But being Administrative head of the district we don't think giving a respect for his Post but we are bringing his religion in between...
It is necessary to respect his position and add his name in the invitation...and that has to b the criteria but here they just want to play politics keeping God in the front....

The District Magistrate or the Collector is the pivot in the district administration. He is the main agent for making the necessary co-ordination of the official agencies functioning within the district. As such the function and responsibilities of the District Magistrate may be broadly classified under three general heads viz., the District Magistrate as the Collector, the District Magistrate as the Magistrate of the ruler of the district and the District Magistrate as the highest administrative officer in the district.

This is unnecessary creation of problems by some of the leaders of Sangh Parivar outfits. There is nothing wrong in printing the name of DC Ibrahim in temple's invitation because he is not only the head of whole Karnataka but also the head of all temples coming under Muzrai department. Why his name cannot be printed, incorporated because he belongs to some other community. What a mentality of the people?. They are really fools, uncultured, uncivilized and how mean they are.
For an example, if we happened to invite prime minister of the nation, who is from other community, can we avoid his name in the invitation when are inviting him as chief guest or guest of honor for any such functions, cremornies merely because he belongs to other community.
Here it is not the question of religion, caste, language, colour and creed. What we need here is gentlemanship, culture, decency and statesmanship. We are all one when we are speaking or talking about our nation. United we stand, divided we fall. Unity means strength. We are seeing so many Hindu names in the invitation of other community’s functions, ceremonies. Can you object it? Why here only the question of name comes?.
Hey guys focus on some other constructive things and be positive rather than concentrating on silly things and creating problems. Improve your personality guys. There should be a limit for each and everything. Don’t cross your limit and show your ugly face. Don’t try to divide the nation in the name of religion and other filthy things. Everybody across the globe, internationally is reading and watching this news.
