Mangaluru, Mar 18: Shree Devi Institute of Technology (SDIT), Kenjar has been conferred the prestigious 'Excellent Engineering College in Karnataka' award by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

The award was presented during the 2nd National Karnataka Education Summit and Awards 2016 at VTU Center for PG Studies, Benagluru on March 14.

This was informed by Dr Dilip Kumar K, principal of Shree Devi Institute of Technology in a press meet held in the college premises here on Saturday March 19.

The award was conferred by R V Deshpande, minister for large and small scale industries and tourism in a programme graced by T B Jayachandra, state minister for law and parliamentary affairs, Dr K Sudhakar, ML A of Chikkaballapur, and Dr H Maheshappa, vice-chancellor of VTU.

Dr Dilip Kumar said that SDIT received this award for its excellent faculty, world class infastructure, student achievements and placements.

"Since its beginning in 2006, the college has been securing excellent results with a pass percentage of 98% in undergraduate courses on an average, and cent percent results in postgraduate department. Our students have also won the overall championships in inter-collegiate fests organized by St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) and Srinivas Institute of Technology.

"We also have various companies visiting our campus and it is a noteworthy fact that three students of the college have recieved a package of Rs 6.3 lac per annum in one of the companies. This year about 228 students have been placed in prestigious companies like Infosys, Mphasis, Aditya Birla Group, Robosoft etc," he said.

"The students of the college have also excelled in academics by securing ranks in the examinations conducted by VTU and three students are also among the toppers in the state. We're expecting them to get the best ranks in the state," he added.

"Shree Devi Institute of Technology offers opportunities to students to pursue studies in management (MBA), computer science (MCA), aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electronics and communication, information science and mechanical engineering, MTech programmes in six branches namely computer science and engineering, digital electronics and communication, VLSI design and embedded systems, computer network engineering, industrial automation and robotics and construction technology. The college offers research programmers leading to PhD in physics, chemistry or mechanical engineering. SDIT has also entered into an MoU with North Dakota State University, USA, and SIT, Tumakuru with a view to promote collaborative research and development, education and training. A team of dedicated faculty, a brilliant student community. excellent technical and support staff and an effective administration have all contributed to the preeminent status of Shree Devi Institute of Technology," he added.

Chairman of the Shree Devi Education Trust A Sadananda Shetty, vice-chairman of the Trust Nidhish S Shetty, and trustee Priyanka N Shetty were present.
