Mangaluru: 51-year-old man murdered at Kodialbail

Mangaluru, Mar 21: A man was hacked to death at PVS Kala Kunj Road, Kodialbail early morning on Monday March 21.

The deceased has been identified as Vinayak Baliga (51).

Police sources said that Baliga used to go to the temple early morning everyday. On Monday at around 5.30 am, he was riding to the temple when two persons came in a bike attacked him with machetes before fleeing the spot. However, other sources said that he was jogging when the assailants came from behind and attacked him.

After sometime, passersby who saw Baliga lying in a pool of blood took him to hospital, but he died on the way.

The motive behind the murder is not yet known. Baliga was an RTI activist and had filed a complaint in the high court regarding alleged misappropriation of funds in Venkataramana Temple, police sources said.

Baliga was an electrical contractor by profession.

Police rushed to the spot along with canine squad. DCP Dr Sanjeev Patil also visited the spot.

Barke police have registered a case.

    Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP), or Gujarat Initiative for Right to Information,that a total of 12 RTI activists had been murdered in the state since the implementation of RTI provisions in the state in 2005.

    There is a need to amend the RTI Act to provide for the protection of those seeking information under the Act. The Asian Centre for Human Rights recommends that a separate chapter, “Protection of those seeking information under the(RTI) Act”,be ed into the Act.

    Let God shower patience to his parents,kin and friends of the deceased.
