Mangaluru: Intolerance increasing in country, says Congress, slams BJP govt

Mangaluru, Mar 21: District Congress interim president Ibrahim Kodijal on Monday March 21 said that intolerance has been increasing in the country of late and lashed out at the BJP-led union government and the Sangh Parivar over some recent incidents.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office, Kodijal said, "Intolerance in the country is rising day by day, including in the state and in our district. We can see acts of intolerance everywhere. This is not good. If you look at the recent developments in the country, two cattle traders were murdered and hanged from a tree in Jharkhand two days ago. Are their murderers not terrorists?"

Referring to the Dadri incident in which a man was lynched to death by a mob, he said, "A few months ago a person was pulled out from his house for keeping mutton in his refridgerator. Is this not terrorism? BJP and Sangh Parivar should answer.

"Are the statements by Uttara Kannada MP Anant Kumar Hegde on Islam not provocative? Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said that Islam is a religion of peace. No religion, be it Hinduism, Islam or Christianity supports terrorism. BJP and Sangh Parivar should understand this. Some of their actions seem like they are against Hinduism and the Constutution, and they should correct themselves," he said.

"Congress will never support communalism and hatred. Congress treats all religions equally and works on the principle of secularism. We should all live with brotherhood. Sowing the seeds of communal hatred is showing disrespect to the Constitution," he added.

On the row over the inclusion deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim's name in the invitation of a Puttur temple programme, he said, "The DC is the chief administrator of the temple, and opposing the inclusion of his name in the invitation is as good as opposing the principles of tolerance, harmony and the essence of Hinduism. I condemn this. From several years we have been celebrating various Hindu festivals together without any discrimination.

"In this regard, disrict in-charge minister Ramanath Rai is a role model to all as he has been celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi by bringing people of all religions together. Religous organizations should be secular. Because of communal polarization, we lost the zilla panchayat elections but in the next Assembly elections we will win all eight seats in the district," he said.

He also said that the budget presented by chief minister Siddaramaiah this time was 'good'.

Corporator Shashidhar Hegde, Puttur block president Kavu Hemanath Shetty, T K Sudhir and others were present.

    Mr Kodijal,
I appreciate your talent. Your party is so much intolerant towards the present govt but you cleverly say BJP is intolerant. You are power hungry and create trouble all over the country and put blame on BJP. Kindly let me know where these Congis take training for such dramas ? You encourage cattle theft and when poor farmers suffer you relish the beaf. Be honest as to what you talk and don't shed crocodile tears by calling media briefs.

The major issue in our Country is cow slaughter and consuming Beef.
It is an accepted fact that Cows are considered as sacred for Majority or all the Hindus and communal intolerance is prevalent whenever Cow issue crops up. Do you think that even if Congress comes to power they can solve the problem or can convince those who believe in their faith?
It's a very critical issue. Then the question arises how Beef is allowed to be exported.
It is better to less discuss on the matter and let the government try to find out a fair solution in this regard.

Beef should not be an issue at all. It is because of the politics of religion of some beef has turned into a problem. People have been eating beef from years and years. Dirty politics, irrational thinking, domination of the majority, hateredness, uneducation are the major causes which surround the issue of beef rather than practice of religion. Simple is those who want let them eat like any other food. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.

It is Bafello meat is exported as beef. Do not blow up the issue. You should go with the majority and respect their feelings. In Kingdom of SA and neighboring countries pork is banned and nobody has guts to say to remove the ban. People silently follow the rule of the land in fear. In India they make it a big issue and try to play with the feelings of majority. That is how the communal disharmony takes place and dongies take advantage as a vote bank.

First of all.. Watch those Buffoons, sitting beside and shaking their heads.
What Intolerance they are speaking about, this word was coined by AMUL Boy PAPPU'S Party to target Modi Ji. I wonder even PAPPU knows the meaning of that?. Does this person speak about what happened in Moodbidri, In Madikeri, or recently what happened in Mysore. Speak about that, Let's be fair to all. What happened in Kerala recently, how many were killed recently??. What happened in Bengal?? What Happened in JNU?? What is that called, tolerance??. Speak about that.
These Pseudo-secular people are only interested in ively targeting, that's all. No other work for these kind of people. They are jealous of Modi ji's good, developmental works, not knowing what to do, scratching their own backs, just make a issue out of a Non-Issue. When your own backyard is stinking why are you pointing on others. See what have you done in Mangalore??. You lost panchayat elections so badly, now what else you want. Stop blaming, Start working. India is good in many aspects. But the present politics of politics and politics of religion giving way to some kind of unrest in the peaceful India. In one hand political competition of coming to power by any means and in another religious enthusiasm of imposing one's religion on another rather than practicing one's religion to the perfect is not at all a good sign for the goodness of India.
