Udupi, Mar 21: "The late Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty had a personality that is unforgettable. His novel contributions to the fields of cooperation, politics and agriculture have been immense. The support he lent to development initiatives by being a taluk panchayat member and MLA were worth emulating. The society at large should have come forward to celebrate the centenary of this great personality. It is appreciable that his family has been celebrating this proud occasion," said former MLA, A G Kodgi.
He was speaking while presiding over a programme organized at Kalavar (Salvady) near here in commemoration of the birth anniversary of the late Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty on Sunday March 20.
"Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty, Appanna Hegde and I had served as taluk board members from 1960 to 1968. Shetty later became Kundapur MLA, while I became MLA representing Byndoor. Then, politics was a field guided by sublime values. The practice of mudslinging against one another was not in vogue. In spite of belonging to different parties, we shared good relationship. The names of towering personalities from this region which come to my mind are those of Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty and Yadtare Manjaiah Shetty. We need to keep remembering such people often," Kodgi added.
Delivering commemoration address, principal of Goddess Durgaparameshwari degree college, Kateel, M Balakrishna Shetty, noted that Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty was recognized as an achiever of highest order in agriculture. He recollected that the contributions made by Shetty to politics, social, educational, religious, and cooperation fields were invaluable. "In those days, he deemed politics as a field of service, and his idea of politics had no room for selfishness. If a statue of someone from the region has to be carved out and installed, it could only be that of Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty," he stated.
Adding further, Shetty advised farmers who are thinking of committing suicide, to get inspiration from the life of Sanjeeva Shetty. He had, like the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysuru, Krishnaraja Wadiyar, striven for achieving agricultural development in the region, Shetty recollected. He stressed that commemoration of this great person gains meaning if we remember the ideals he adopted in his life, and follow the path shown by him.
Former state minister, Amarnath Shetty, former MLA, B Appanna Hegde, and chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, participated as chief guests. A documentary prepared about Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty on the occasion was released by A G Kodgi.
Retired teacher, Kushala Shetty, who retired after serving Vivekodaya higher primary school Sunnari, Celome Jose, Ramanna Shetty, Koragaiah Shetty, Sheelavathi Shetty, M Sanjeeva Shetty, K Shekhar Shetty, and Ramachandra Upadhya, were felicitated. Retired professor of Maharani College Mysuru, Prof K Rajaram Shetty, felicitated the dignitaries. On behalf of felicitated persons, Ramachandra Updahya shared the feelings. Kottadi Narayana Shetty, who was an associate of Kaup
sanjeeva Shetty, and who used to cook for him, was honoured.
Retired deputy general manager of Vijaya Bank and former peesident of Bengaluru Bunts Sangha, Kaup Diwakar Shetty Uliayrgoly welcomed. Retired vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Dr Sunnari Chandrashekhar Shetty, proposed vote of thanks. Teacher, Udayakumar Shetty, presented the programme.
Community feast was arranged thereafger. Earlier in the day, programmes like garlanding of the photo frame of Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty, and musical programme by Akashvani artiste, Ganesh Gangolli and team, were organized. In the evening, a programme of cultural grandeur was staged by students of Alva's educational institutions, Moodbidri.
