UN hails UAE space agency efforts


Abu Dhabi, Mar 21 (IANS/WAM): Director of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Simonetta Di Pippo has praised the progress made by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Space Agency since its inception.

Di Pippo congratulated the UAE Space Agency referring to the prominent role it played through its membership of UNOOSA.

This came when Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, chairman of the UAE Space Agency Board, met Di Pippo at the agency headquarters here.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the prospects of joint cooperation.

Di Pippo was briefed by Al Rumaithi on the work of the agency and its objectives, initiatives, programmes and the strategy of the space sector in the country.

The meeting comes within the framework of Di Pippo's participation in a seminar of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and UNOOSA, hosted by the General Authority of Civil Aviation and UAE Space Agency for the first time outside the International Civil Aviation Organisation's headquarters.
