With this, the police succeeding in cracking murder case in just three days.

Madhava was living along in his house for the past four years, while his wife stays in Mumbai with their son. The couple's two daughters live in Mysuru.

It is learnt that the accused Narasimha was Madhava's neighbour and was out of work for the past four years. He is married.

Sources said that Narasimha assumed that Madhava had much money with him as he was preparing to leave for Mumbai, and with an intention to rob, he entered Madhava's house from the back door and attacked him with a sickle. He then took away a gold chain, a gold ring and some petty cash from the house and escaped.

During investigations, the Byndoor police enquired the family as well as the neighbours and others persons who knew Madhava. The police noticed that Narasimha had bruises on his face, hands and chest, and grew suspicious. He was taken for medical examination and the doctor confirmed that the bruises were nail marks, apparently made by Madhava. It is suspected that when Narasimha allegedly hit him, Madhava grabbed him and his nails tore into Narasimha's skin.

The accused was then taken into custody and later arrested.

SP Annamalai addressing a press meet later in the afternoon said that the police recovered a gold chain, a ring, two mobile phones, a sickle, a watch, a key bunch, a bottle of perfume, a camera and some petty cash.

Sources said that Narasimha is a relative of the deceased.

The investigation was led by Byndoor SI Santosh Kini and Gangolli SI Subbanna.

Narasimha was produced in court on Tuesday March 22.
