Udupi, Mar 23: In a macabre accident which occurred at Mangarayachiwadi Cross in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra on Tuesday March 22, four members of a family from Brahmavar lost their lives. The family was returning to Mumbai in a car after visiting their hometown, when tragedy struck them in a big way.

A couple, their child, and one of their relatives died in this accident. The deceased have been identified as Santosh Domba Devadiga (41), his wife, Poornima Santosh Devadiga (35), child, Anisha Devadiga (4), and Supriya Datta Devadiga (36). While Santosh was a resident of Ghatkoper Mumbai, Supiya was residing in Talegaon Dabadi, Pune. Datta Vittal Devadiga (45), whose nature of injuries are stated to be grave, is fighting for his life at Chatrapati Prameela Raje Hospital at Kolhanpur. He is employed in a company at Chaken, Pune.

Two others in the car, Kapil Vittal Devadiga and Avaneesh Datta Devadiga, escaped unhurt. The family had taken part in a function held at Brahmavar on Sunday, before undertaking return journey. They had started back from Brahmavar on Monday evening, and the accident occurred before they reached Pune on Tuesday morning. The car that was speeding on highway hit the rear of a truck which had just then reached the highway after filling its fuel tank in a roadside petrol bunk. A portion of the car was completely smashed, and taking the bodies out of the car proved to be a daunting job.

In addition to surviving relatives, a dog that was being taken in the car, which survived the accident, also shed copious tears, a scene which moved the onlookers a lot. Sources said that the bodies were brought to Talegaon Dabadi on Tuesday evening.

They invited death by themselves. I cannot even imagine 7 person 1 doggy inside an alto. Be responsible at least for other people's life.

Very tragic. 6 people, their luggage and a dog. The car is overloaded. People with small vehicles should avoid driving in the night. May their souls rest in peace.
