Mangalore, Sep 30: As the counting of votes polled in the MCC elections drew to a close, what was expected was confirmed. It was the BJP's convincing win for the first time in the history of the city.

The BJP had maintained a clear edge right from the time when the counting began. Perhaps it was a laborious process for those who had been accustomed to the counting of votes by way of electronic voting machines as it happened in the last assembly elections. The results would be out in a couple of hours. But, for the local body polls, the process of ballot papers had been set by the authorities.

So it was a long wait for the candidates, their supporters and the media in particular and the citizens in general. By about 7-30 pm, the final tally was available.

Here is a stellar example that democracy works. Whlie it is not a outright victory, it is a clear signal that former ruling did not deliver optimally. First job of new MCC administration- deliver that was not delivered by others-roads, ban illegal buildings, take care of footpath vending market, etc. or face the same consequences. Above all rule with non-communal philosophy.
