Mangaluru: 15,000 rape videos watched by youngsters in city every day: NGO

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Mar 23: A survey on 'consequences of violent porn and teen porn', was carried out by 'Rescue', an NGO, on 470 students from 25 colleges in the city. The survey made a shocking revelation that about 15,000 rapes per day were viewed on video by youngsters in the age group of 16-21 years, and that 38% of boys watch violent porn, including an average of 11 rapes per week on porn sites.

This information was disclosed by Abishek Clifford, CEO of Rescue in a press meet here on Wednesday March 23.

"Access to rape and child porn videos on porn sites makes the act of rape desirous. In the city, 68% of degree boys watch porn for 7 hours a week, starting as young as 10 years on an average, and 28% of degree girls watch porn three hours a week. 38% of boys watch violent porn including an average of 11 rapes a week. Each year, as many as 1,900 new students begin watching rape during their PUC/HSS and undergraduation studies," Clifford said.

The survey also pointed out that 87% of the students stated that porn leads to sexual activities. "32% of the students actually indulged in the act, and 82% revealed that watching rape videos gave them the desire to actually indulge in the act of rape," he said.

"When we do not allow advertising of cigarettes on TV, why should we allow advertisements of rape and child molestation on the internet?" he questioned.

He also said that in 2017, the NGO will complete the survey in the entire country. "Once the survey is complete, the NGO will recommend the government of India to ban the websites which host rape, porn and child pornography and file a PIL to the court on this," he said.

He further added that teen girls are trafficked for prostitution and around 250 girls from the city are gang-raped every night in brothels. "Human trafficking for sexual slavery has become a business and is rampant in foreign countries," he added.

"About 70% of the porn sites consist of child porn. About 50% of boys in the city watch teen porn, while 13,000 demand teen porn. Teen girls are abducted to make these videos. About 75% also stated that porn sites inspire them to go to prostitutes. In fact, 37% of these degree students go to prostitutes. 9,400 boys in the city demand and pay for young prostitutes," Clifford revealed.

He also recommended the inclusion of cyber ethics in the syllabus and stressed that there was a need to create awarness on the issue among students.

He said watching porn sites frequently increases the urge for sex which also results in divorce. "In England, 60% of marriages end in divorce while in India it is only 2%," he said.

Rescue is an NGO which conducts moral awareness programmes in more than 200 colleges each year teaching against violent pornography, teen abortions, human trafficking, AIDS, irresponsible sexual behaviour and rape. Rescue has held awareness programmes at 50 colleges in Mangaluru for 21,000 students in the last few months.

Vijetha was present at the meet.

This survey report is all humbug in the first place!!

    Secondly it is gender biased!!

It is well known fact that the % of older women abusing the boy child is way much more than other way round!!

On the WWW it is impossible to ban any content totally!!

If not internet hard core porn CDs are openly available with roadside vendors in metro cities!!

Only solution is creating awareness and counseling those attracted to porn!!

When alcohol/cigarettes/drugs are available openly, is every one addicted to, so also with porn, it is a mental aberration of certain mindsets!!

By the above opinion, I am in no way endorse porn or any addiction!!

NGOs are spreading like mushrooms and are nothing but hub for devious international transactions . Its a irony that a foreign national comes and creates media frenzy with fake statistics , as if he is stepped down from glorious heaven . All NGOs should b brought under strict SEBI , FIMA guidelines and their source of funding , vested agenda should be dealt with .

Anything available on web is impossible to monitor and involves all kind of explicit content. This man only highlighted male violence on females but what about vice versa !? , its nothing but trying to create misandry ( men hatred ) and rape paranoia in society . Shut all NGOs and half the problems r solved . All they do is subvert countries natural system by pushing feminism , fascism , communism

    Roshan,

I completely agree with what you said. The information what these NGO has provided is grossly misleading and anybody could take their survey and use it to show how bad the men are and they are really being irresponsible about it.

Many of people who read such articles really dont do much of research and they would believe the same as fact.

I call bulls#it on what they say is a survey. I dont think they are being honest in their survey findings.

First of all, many have different preference in what type of porn they would typically watch. There is no way a normal person would watch 7 hours of rape porn. Same can be said about child porn. only some insane crazy person would watch those.

"32% of the students actually indulged in the act, and 82% revealed that watching rape videos gave them the desire to actually indulge in the act of rape,"

What do you mean 32% indulge in the act?? act of rape?? If they are having consensual sex, whats the problem.

"When we do not allow advertising of cigarettes on TV, why should we allow advertisements of rape and child molestation on the internet?"

Please show where do they actually advertise such things on internet. Just saying somethings doesnt make it true. what they are doing over here is that they are feeding misinformation about what is happening on internet. people who dont really use internet fall for it.

9,400 boys in the city demand and pay for young prostitutes,"

They are absolutely wrong over here. what people must know is that child porn is illegal even on internet. most countries have laws against hosting such sites.

What these people are saying ''teen porn'' does not mean that the girls in the videos are from the age 12- 17. All of those girls will be 18 and over because or else it will be illegal. And for your info.. those girls are not abducted.

how is watching porn got do with going to prostitutes? As if they would`nt have gone to prostitutes if they wouldn't be watching porn. In a country were consensual sex with a girlfriend considered as rape(were girl is pressured into confessing to the authorities by her relatives) , going to prostitute would be better option.

"32% of the students actually indulged in the act, and 82% revealed that watching rape videos gave them the desire to actually indulge in the act of rape,"

If 82% say that they desire have desire to rape because of watching rape videos?? Then 82% need to be in Psychiatric hospital and not in colleges.

"In England, 60% of marriages end in divorce while in India it is only 2%,"

The divorce rates has nothing to do with watching porn. Low divorce rates in india does not mean india is better. It only shows that spouses tolerate eachother a lot more because of societal pressures. In UK or any western nations thats not the case.

Their whole survey or whatever they said contains a lot of fallacies. They have gone into the survey with the intention of linking rapes to watching porn, and thats the result they have come up with. What about linking drinking and rapes(and i am not stating this hypothetically, but the majority of the cases with rape involve drinking alcohol).

Many of the people may think that i am defending porn but i am actually not. Porn cannot be really banned on internet. it is true that you can ban porn sites, but no one visits the porn sites these days because they are paid, so most of them are done through p2p file sharing which is free. and banning them is near to impossible.

White man always find faults in India (not that we dont have any faults)
Just google rapes in Rotherham UK.
More than 2000 underage girls were raped in a small town in UK by Muslims of Pakistani origin. The Police and and authorities closed their eyes and slept over it deliberately, finally after public backlash, few arrests and said Asians committed the crimes. They didnt even dare to call them Pakistani Muslims.

So Mr.Clifford, look after your backyard before you point fingers at others. Shanker has exposed your data in this column here.

    Somehow the data is confusing.
    470 students was the sample.
15000 rape video watch per day.
Each student watches 32 porn videos a day.
consider, 10 minutes a video, that amounts to 5 and half hours a day.
    Unbelievable..

More than 5 hrs also believable.
Todays kids hardly spend time talking face to face with family members. Yes, there are exception.
If they come back from college worst case by 6pm.. They sleep not earlier than 2am. So that's a good 8 hours where they utilise time for their own.
Technology has corroded the mentality of kids.. Very sad n butter truth.. Not surprising though.
Even when I was in school some 25yrs back Atleast 2% of boys seemed absolutely active.
So 25 years is a long time for things to progress rapidly in all areas.
How to protect our kids and maintain the innocence is a challenge.

This is really so funny because,A foreigner needs to come to Mangalore and educate us about such things!!!

Just do a surprise visit to all the schools/colleges and just check what school kids chit chat,I mean kids in 3rd grade knowingly/unknowingly are presented to such adult material in cyber,And kids of 5th are well mature they know everything. They need not be a TEENAGER

There is nothing to get surprise by this statistical data because,This has by default come into our system/technology.I need not tell much i guess.

Its "SUNNY" weather in Mangalore now a days too hot. When kids know key words and with google pithamahas help it has become easy for every one to access such contents.

I think the "TECHNOLOGY" is "CULPRIT"
