Mumbai, Aug 28: Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has expressed disappointment over the manner in which senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from Test cricket earlier this year.
Both players, who enjoyed illustrious red-ball careers, brought curtains down in May, just ahead of the England Test series. Srikkanth criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI, stating that the situation was mishandled.
'You must be an excellent player if you have played 100 Test matches for your country. Such legends deserve a proper farewell, Srikkanth remarked. He further added that there was a clear communication gap when the two stalwarts decided to retire. “The board should have spoken to them and ensured a fitting farewell,” he said.
