Hubballi: Destitute girl gets second chance at life, thanks to Kateel temple priest

Daijiworld Media Network – Hubballi (RJP)

Hubballi, Mar 25: This assistant priest from Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple had always had the noble intention of marrying a less fortunate girl. God indeed answered his prayer. Priest Sudhindra married a young destitute named Savitha in Hubballi on Thursday March 24.

Savitha is 19 years old and has been living at the state women care centre here for the past one-and-a-half years. Sudhindra, aged 27, owns a house and two acres of land at Kateel and works as an assistant priest at the temple. The person who helped Sudhindra in realizing his intention is Santosh Bhat, also a priest from Puttur. Incidentally Santosh also married a destitute from the same women centre two years back. After that he has been visiting Hubballi to perform every wedding at the centre. Sudhindra too had accompanied him many times.

About 15 days ago, Sudhindra had gone there to finalize the proposal with his mother Pushpavathi, sister Surekha Bhat and his uncle Sheshachala Bhat residing in Hubballi, and the marriage was fixed.

When Sudhindra came on Wednesday for the wedding, he was welcomed warmly at the centre.

Savitha’s parents divorced when she was a child. Her grandmother looked after her for some years, after which Savitha was sent to a children centre in Ghantikeri. She studied 6th and 7th standard at Ghantikeri. After that she was sent to Belagavi children's center till she was shifted to the present women care centre.

Savitha and Sudhindra have both completed SSLC education.

Here's wishing them a happy and prosperous life together.

It reflects the sad state of affairs in brahmin community. Nobody is ready to marry a priest or agriculturist. Many people i know have married from ashrams like this.
