Bengaluru: Race for BJP presidentship gets interesting turn

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 26: With the term of the present incumbent, Prahlad Joshi, coming to an end, race for the state presidentship of BJP is hotting up. While there is information that either Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi, or Shivamogga MP B S Yeddyurappa, may be chosen by the central leadership for the above post, the name of a veteran BJP leader Govind Karjol also cropping up now.

The central leadership will take into account current political scenario in the state, caste combinations, electoral tactics, ability to lead all the factions in the next election etc before taking a final call. As there is concern about the chief minister Siddaramaiah, getting unstinting support of most of the backward classes, a need is also felt to prop up a leader of caliber from backward classes to tackle the sway chief minister has on Ahinda groups. Towards this end, suggestions to make Vijayapura MP Ramesh Jigajinagi a central minister, or handing over state leadership of the party to senior leader, Govind Karjol, have also been propped up.

Several people feel that chances of Jigajinagi becoming a central minister are brighter. Although BJP has leaders from backward classes like legislative council opposition leader K S Eshwarappa and B Sriramulu in its fold, they have not been able to effectively counter the influence of the chief minister on these classes, analysts say. Yeddyurappa's name has drawn support from party stalwarts like Arvind Limbavali and R Ashok.

There is a faction that backs the idea of making a leader other than Yeddyurappa the state president of BJP. This faction is supporting Ravi's candidature, it is said, and reportedly, party's joint national organizing secretary, Santosh, has been backing Ravi. Although Santosh had initially supported MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for the post, because of the fact that he is not well known all over the state and as he himself has shown reluctance to accept the post, Ravi's name is doing the rounds now. There is also a suggestion to make Ravi the state president and project Yeddyurappa as future chief minister of Karnataka.

National president of BJP Amit Shah, is likely to hold talks with all the units of the party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders before finalizing the name of the state BJP president.

Yeddy is the only leader with leadership qualities.
He is a mass leader, BJP in Karnataka can be strengthened only by his leadership. Prahlad Joshi is like a Shaka Pramukh. CT Ravi is not capable of leading the party. Govind Karjol is an unknown entity.

Most of the BJP leaders are against BSY but in Karnataka BSY can only salvage ailing BJP.Central leadership is in a tight rope and making RAVI for the post is suicidal.Ultimately,it is like INDIA-BANGLA Cricket match result that BSY might have last laugh...

which term...Karnataka …it was only once BJP ruled for 44 months with 3 chief ministers.
Just imagine what will happen in 2019 Lok Sabha election. Have you ever heard so much turmoil in the society and so much restless party workers since BJP come to power. Its the BJP will defeat BJP on his own due to the way they are handling every issue day by day. Have you ever seen a PM talking and making fun in the parliament just like he is talking in the 2014 election rally.

No other choice over Yeddyurappa for BJP. Despite all his shortcomings and short temper, he is the only mass leader in state BJP. None of other leaders have that public appeal. They tried with Prahlad Joshi but results have been disastrous with BJP losing the assembly elections and then almost all other elections too. There could be factions within BJP who would like to have a someone else. But they are also aware that apart from Yeddy no one else has pan-Karnataka appeal that can fetch votes to them. C T Ravi isn't accepted by all due to his hardline leanings and lacks organizations skills while Govind Karjol though clean, hardly has any mass appeal outside North Karnataka. It's ಹಳೇ ಗಂಡನ ಪಾದವೇ ಗತಿ for BJP. A happy Yeddy is an asset to BJP but an angry and neglected Yeddy can shake the very existence of BJP in the state. If not Yeddy, BJP would never have risen to this stature in Karnataka and it's also the fact that if it was not Yeddy, BJP would not have reached these abysmal lows too. For BJP, you love or hate Yeddy, but you just can't ignore him...

All that you quoted at least never disown their loyal members.
If a Congress Man makes a statement, it becomes a party’s statement even if it is bad or worst.
Where as BJP has all the ways to escape and say that,it is nothing to do with party,Uska Apna Soch Hai,Hum Tho public ke saath hain..BJP never claim any responsibility.
BJP is one with VHP RSS BD RS and all the mushroom type armies with lathi everywhere in Karnataka and India. But when it comes to claim responsibilities, they will distance each other.
I agree that congress has some OLD useless Old people who don’t allow the young leaders to come up because the Old one are hungry for power throughout life.
Every true congressman stands with all communities together irrespective of cast and creed and religion and skin color.
