Mangaluru, Mar 27: The police on Sunday March 27 arrested two persons in connection to the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga that took place in Kodialbail on March 21.

Addressing a press meet here on Sunday March 27, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar informed that the accused arrested are Vinith Poojary (26), a resident of Padavinangady, Kavoor and Nishith Devadiga (23), a resident of Shaktinagar.

Nishith (L) and Vinith

Baliga was murdered early morning on March 21 when he was on his way to the temple as usual on his scooter. Just as he came out of his house, unidentified persons waylaid him and attacked him with sharp weapons before escaping the spot.

After the murder took place, a police team led by ACP Tilak Chandra and CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza and other personnel was formed. The CCB team succeeded in arresting the two accused on March 27 morning near the railway station at BC Road, Bantwal.

The police commissioner said that the two accused are supari (contract) killers who were directly involved in the murder, and investigation is on to trace the other accused and those who plotted the crime.

"There are a few people behind this and we are determined to trace them. The accused arrested are supari killers who committed the crime for money. We came to know this during preliminary investigation. This is an important case," he said.

"The accused had planned to murder Baliga on March 20, but could not carry out their task as there were people around. On March 21, they waylaid Baliga on the pretext of asking some address and attacked him.

"We will follow up this case. We are duty-bound to solve the murder and arrest all the accused. We visited the victim's family also and assured that we would get to the bottom of the case. We are doing our duty without fear or favour and we will stand by the family. We will ensure that the investigation is done in a proper manner until the case reaches its logical conclusion. Give some time to trace the others who are involved," he said.

Asked about the motive behind the murder, he said, "It is very early to predict. I cannot speak now as there should be some proof."

To a query on whether Baliga was killed because of his RTI activism, the police commissioner said it could not be ruled out.

He also said that the weapons used in the crime are yet to be recovered.

DCPs Dr Sanjeev Patil and Shantaraju were present.

I am worried to see that many comments are somehow linked to party politics. A Good man was murdered for exposing corruption and gang rule which will ultimately degrade us all due to lack of civil rule. Let us unite and give a united front when it comes to rule of law so that we have a better society. My best wishes to the wonderful police of DK.

First of all let me congratulate the entire police team for their sincere efforts in nabbing the supari killers, who murdered Baliga on March 21, morning when he was on his way to temple. Police chief also assured to nab plotters. Commendable job. But what will be the aftermath of nabbing?.Will the killers be awarded adequate punishment or will be confined to jail or will be given lifetime imprisonment or will be released on bail with the interference of some influential person or political party after all these hangama?
Normally it happens so that police will arrest or nab the anti-national elements, killers, thieves, robbers, looters with their sincere efforts and the same will be published in the dailies and finally all those arrested will be released on conditional or unconditional bail upon the order of some political parties or influential person, thereby giving another opportunity to commit crime and roam in the street scot-free. This is what the judiciary system of India.
What I suggest is to give them maximum punishments like life imprisonment, hanging or to be treated with the same weapons and sent to the same destination where they have sent Baliga. They must also realize that how much pain Baliga might have undergone or screamed for help, when he was being attacked. Humanity is totally vanished now days. Money has taken its place.
Once again hats off to police team, who involved in nabbing the supari killers. But here the problem is sincere police officers are not allowed to stay for long time. Only corrupt officers are allowed to stay and rule.
Once upon a time Mangalore had a good reputation of being the intelligent people’s city, with good educational institutions and good hospitality custom extended to the outsiders.”ATHITHI DEVO BHAVA”.But now that name is being eroded.

I could see there are 2 disagrees. May be we need to investigate who are these 2 who pressed disagree. only such criminals can press disagree and if we could catch hold of these 2 culprits, we can get hold of many such criminals. Come on boss... let's all support the change required in the society. Something harsh and strong is needed to stop all these in human acts of the day. So, I also stand very strong on this, severe punishment like sentence to death may bring down these evil acts like day light murders and robberies kind of.

With Mr. Chandrashekar the commissioner of Police and the two DCPs Dr Sanjeev Patil and Shantaraju as the prime investigators it is only a question of time before the entire plot gets exposed and the guilty nabbed. From the data provided it is clear that the killers were hired to do the crime.

The initial investigations under the guidance of The Commissioner and the two DCP's have produced the required results and it is only a question of time ere the whole episode is exposed fully.

Is it not strange that the congress govt which gave compensation to you know who dint give any compenastion here and also is it not strange no MLA visited the family. The message I want to give is simple, please dont politicise this. Politicising everything is responsible for these acts. Whoever does wrong we should qusetion. Whever behind this irrespective of party, religion should be punished. Just like we ask why BJP not protesting we should ask why congress not paying compensation, why Rahul and Kejriwal who went running to hyderrabad and JNU did not visit here. Only impartial questioning by us citizens can help us. Remember this can happen to any of us and no plotician will come to our help.

You are still not getting my point. Yeddi Joshi etc are not mine and Ia do not support them. What I am trying to say is you say why BJP not asking compensation, another person says Congress not giving compensation. This is exactly what the politicians want us to do that is fight among ourselves so that they can make merry. They are all friends. We keep fighting and finally honest people being killed. So please dont politicise. Question politicians irrespective of party if wrong is done.

    Shankar,
Show my comments demanding compensation for Kabeer, shabbir or sulaiman. Just to escape from my question, don't give rubbish reasons. When you guys can do drama on street for Prashanth, who was nothing special achievements in his credit, why don't you guys stand by a Hindu brother Baliga?
Why can't you support Harish Bantwal's (who was killed by extremists) family?
