Mangaluru: Invitation row - 'We don't need lesson on tolerance from DC', says VHP

Mangaluru, Mar 28: In the wake of the controversy over the inclusion of deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim's name in the invitation of Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple's car festival, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday March 28 said that it strongly condemns the 'interference' of non-Hindus in temple affairs and that the VHP does not need lessons on tolerance from the DC.

Addressing a press meet here, VHP working president M B Puranik said, "VHP condemns the interference of non-Hindus in temple administration. The inclusion of DC Ibrahim's name in the Puttur temple invitation has hurt the sentiments of Hindus. It is ironic that a person who has no belief in Hindu religion is inviting Hindus to take part in the festival. This is also a violation of the section 7 of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997."

Responding to DC Ibrahim's statement that the controversy over his name in the invitation had risen out of 'intolerance', Puranik said, "The DC need not teach us what is tolerance and intolerance. We don't need lessons from him on this."

He however clarified, "We have nothing personal against the DC. All we are saying is inclusion of his name in the temple invitation is a violation of the law. The rituals should be performed by Hindus only."

He further said, "As per the guidelines, if the DC is a non-Hindu, the administration of the temple should be taken up by the assistant commissioner or some other officer who is Hindu. DC Ibrahim has violated the law. He says everything has been done according to protocol, but this is not protocol. His statement is misleading the people.

"According to the protocal, names of only political representatives names can be mentioned. This programme is not a government programme but by the Hindu community. There is no organizing committee nor any festival committee either.

"Tomorrow (Tuesday March 29), all Hindus and devotees of the Puttur temple will hold mass prayers in front of the temple at 10 am. There will be bhajan programme also. The devotees are demanding that DC's name should be withdrawn fom the invitation and that it should be reprinted. VHP fully supports their demand," he added.

"The VHP cannot tolerate attempts to divide Hindutva. We condemn the government's move to appoint five non-Hindus in the muzrai department. Parties should not politicize this issue as it concerns the sentiments of Hindus. There is no communal intention behind this," he stressed, adding, "When we protest such violation, VHP is branded as 'communal' out of vested political interests."

When pointed out that DC Ibrahim's name had been included in the invitation of Kukke Subramanya Temple programme also, he said, "We came to know that only a day prior to the event. It was a violation and cannot be allowed again."

Sharan Pumpwell, Sanjeeva Matandoor and others were present.

VHP and sanghis are very upset because an Muslim DC is heading DK which believed to be SANGHIS home turf.

VHP.....Wakf department is purely meant for Muslim Community but 99% BJP ruled states are having HINDU MINISTERS.VHP or MUSLIM LEAGUE does not subscribe by all Hindus or Muslims respectively.DC is executive magistrate and first citizen of the district and even administrator of all affairs of HINDU OR MUSLIM communities.BJP/VHP/Sanghis are doing politics by creating rift between the communities...That is the main capital.

People seem to have reserved all their advices to hiindus alone as if they are some superior class. In the case of temple, my point remains same. Invitiees are usually the ones who stay in the forefront worshiping the lord or pulling the cart etc. There is no point of putting the name as a customary. But I don’t know what exactly the rule book says, so I don’t know if DC is wrong or vhp is wrong.

But the commentary here is what is funny. These who are happy taking potshot at this vhp-guys, may know that the hindu temple income is taken by the govt. If the govt allots money to the welfare scheme of any community, that is partially from the temple apart from tax collected. Nowhere else in the world, temple money is taken for the purpose that is not linked to the community that represents. But then people who show off saying they are extra generous, pl note and try contributing just like what we do. We don’t complain taking money from the temple as it ultimately goes to society..

So, let the charity begin from home. Advice if any, must be started from themselves and not keep it for hindus only

I do not understand idea behind all this. DC is District Commissioner & is an ultimate Authority for our Dist. He is invited as a Chief Guest/ Guest of Honor in this capacity as a Dist Collector. Does his religion matter here - I wonder really. Come on people do not do such things, which brings in disharmony and religious sensitivity in society. Let us treat DC as an Institution, Head of a Dist Head Qrtrs, whether he is a Muslim, Hindu, , Catholic or Sikh, should not be a matter of concern. When DC is invited he will surely not interfere in your religious matters, he knows that. Please let us not continue this row. It is not healthy for our society.!!

    Shankar,
Straight thinking or strait forwardness will not help when VHP, right-wing Hindu nationalist organization is involved and opposing DC's part in the religious ceremonies. This may apply vice versa.
Better not to go after constitutional rights or challenges and abstain from bigger controversies. People are so involved in religious sentiments/hatred that a minor incident may skirmish into communal flare for nothing. Better to avoid if public demands.
    No pain no gain.

In my opinion, the good solution is the invitation card should not be changed but DC should opt out not to attend this function, giving reason, as preoccupied due to prior commitments.

..eventhough its not good development, these situations going to increase..not because of Intolerance but because of bias, dual treatment by Govts/Courts..whether its interference, take over so on..secularism was forced on Hindus but others let out sighting religious sentiments..there are many PIL against Muslim personal law..very recently Kerala Hight court judge( a Muslim) said, Muslim personal law is gender biased, it should be ammended..Muslim organisation objects..SC very quick on Shabarimala/Shani temple women entry but on Durgah entry still no judgement..SC which passes judgment quickly on any Hindu religious matters without considering sentiments, now passed the buck to central Govt to decide on personal law ammendment!!..these things makes Hindus to agitate against..Hope Govt/court considers this..

You mean Muslims are controlling SC and govt...It is your BJP/RSS /VHP controlling the govt...ask them to do...Even Muslim doesn't have significant presence in judiciary...Protesting is a civil right...Even when Hindu code bill was amended by ambedkar it was met with significant protest..
Going to masjid apart from south Asia not much other even conservative Muslim countries prevent women from entering places of worship..
But before going for UCL let me ask ...whether Dalit converts to Islam and Christianity gets reservation rights with it...if yes I will understand your concern is genuine...if not your concern for UCL is just a sham concern which can be used as a tool to hate a community....Meanwhile UCL doesn't mean following HPL...But I ask BJP govt why it is not going for UCL...so that it can be used as a tool during next general election..

In my opinion.., there is no need to see Honorable DC as individual he is an officer of a Govt Institution.
Let us wait for the HC verdict on the issue..,
Since DC is not performing any pooja's then it is as per law..., No confusion..,
