Karkala, Mar 29: Three persons have been taken into custody, and gold ornaments which were stolen from various houses during the last three years have been confiscated. The accused had stolen these items from different locations within the town and rural police station limits. This was stated by district superintendent of police, Annamalai K, at a press conference held here on Monday March 28.

The arrested accused are Anand, a native of Moodigere who presently resides at Joduraste Himmunje in the town, and his relatives, Ratna, wife of Venkatesh and Madhura, wife of Indrajith, living at Joduraste in the town.

Annamali said that the ornaments were stolen from the houses of Rama Acharya from Kukkundoor in 2012, Shruti Shettigar from Mundkur in 2014, Suma Madhusudan Shetty from Nitte in 2014, Ramesh from Bajagoli Gurgalugudde in Mudaru village and Seetaram Shetty from Sriram Nagar in Nitte during 2015.

"The modus operandi of the gang was to move around different areas in the guise of rag pickers, identifying houses which are locked, and stealing them at night. All this was done by Anand, while his relatives, Ratna and Madhura, raised loans by pledging the stolen ornaments to banks.

He said that 'C' reports had been prepared for these old cases, but local assistant superintendent of police, Sumana, put in efforts and cracked the cases.

Dont entertain any rag pickers, beggars, strangers. All these things should be stopped. All people in the area should be always be on alert, so the strangers should never enter the area again. Hats off to the cops for a well done job.
