Udupi: Scholar-linguist Handadi Ramakrishna Bhat (93) Passes away

Udupi, Oct 4: Tri-lingual scholar Handadi Ramakrishna Bhat (93) passed away at his residence at Handadi near here on Tuesday.

Bhat, who had mastered Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit had served in Milagres High School, Kallianpur for 25 years. He had the credit of having imparted basic Sanskrit lessons to Shri Sugunendratirtha Shripada of Puttige Math, during the latter's student days.

A man of strict discipline and devotion, Bhat was given the honour of being the 'Asthana Vidwamsa' during all three 'Paryaya' events of Puttige Math held so far. A recipient of 'Upendra Vithala' award, he had also been honoured by several organizations like Brahmin Mahasabha.

He is survived by four sons and three daughters.
