Hrithik sent notice for 'hurting Christian sentments' with his 'Pope' tweet

Mumbai, Mar 30 (PTI): Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has been sent a legal notice by former Vice-Chairman of Maharashtra Minority Commission Abraham Mathai accusing him of "hurting sentiments" of Christian community by making a reference to "Pope" in a tweet directed at actress Kangana Ranaut.

Mathai's lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee said the notice has been sent to the 42-year-old actor under the provision of Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code asking the actor to apologise in seven days failing which a criminal complaint will be filed.

The "hurtful" remarks were made on Twitter after the 'Bang Bang' star's alleged ex-lover Kangana apparently referred to him as her silly 'ex'.

"Hrithik Roshan has hurt the religious sentiments, feelings and beliefs of Christians (Roman Catholics) all over the world which includes my client as well. My client wants a written public apology from Hrithik Roshan within 7 days," Siddiquee said.

Hrithik, on January 28, had tweeted, "There r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope dan any of d (I m sure wonderful) women d media hs ben naming. Thanks but no thanks (sic)."

The notice also said that by making such a statement on a public platform Hrithik has not only willfully challenged the chastity of the respected Pope but has also shown him in poor light.

"Thus malafidely, mischievously and intentionally outraged the religious feelings and insulted the religious beliefs of Romans Catholics all over the world who consider the Pope to be absolutely chaste as their spiritual and religious leader," the notice read.

The notice also reads that by indulging in such a criminal act Roshan has rendered himself guilty and liable to be tried under the provision of Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

Siddiquee in the notice has asked the actor to apologise in seven days failing which he will proceed ahead with the matter and obtain the required government sanction, under of Section 196 of Criminal Procedure Code and accordingly file a criminal complaint against Roshan.

Neither the actor nor his representative was available for comment.

Hrithik became famous hero by acting.
After becoming famous, instead of humility, pride entered in him.
Pride ruins a person, he attempted to put down somebody, so he abused Pope, who lives in the hearts and very dear to maximum people of this world.

Please don't make big hungama. If at all Christian s were hurted they would have protested.Though he is the head of Christians but still he is the humble servant of God.You cant take any respect by force let everyone say what they feel.At the end if there is no reaction from the other side they themselves will feel guilty. So Mr Mathai please withdraw the case.We Roman Catholics are not interested in the politics.

He uses his talents and senses while acting or dancing. Comments like this especially referring Pope seems to have gone beyond his reasonable thinking powers.
Did he have any guts to refer to any Hindu high priest or leader of the country in a derogatory manner like that?
He has to admit his silly and hurtful comments.
A joke apart, Pope is the head of Millions of Christian congregation who carries high respect. If remained quiet he may refer to a some other Clergy in similar manner.
Let him forget his celebrity status while dealing with religious matters.

Mathai's actions should be treated as own his own, not representing anyone.whoever tells whatever they want against pope or anyone it will not change the status or anything of any one. Even Mathew could have directly complained to pope, pope would have invited both Mathew and Hrithik, embraced them and wished them happy life.

I am a Christian and Hritik's comments have not my any feelings, let alone Religious Feelings. Then who is this self-appointed, publicity hungry custodian of Christianity Mathai? The Court after dismissing this Case should slap a fine of Rs 50 crore or more on Mathai and ask him to pay the same within 10 days so that he does not do these silly things again. Our courts have thousands of cases pending already. I am sure half of them are these kinds of frivolous cases filed by nut cases such as Mathai. Why burden Courts when they already struggling to clear such a huge backlog?

And the tweet was in the end of January 2016, and you wake up on 29th. March 2016, after an alteration between this pair. People are not fools, they can see through your Malicious intentions. Consult the pope first if he is disturbed or offended, which in all likely hood will be a negative reply.

Firstly Abraham Mathai, you don't represent the Roman Catholic Community. You are self appointed custodian of Catholics. Just last week the pope washed and kissed the feet of the 12 men (apostles), he was so humble in his approach and so loving and gracefully performed his duty as the apostle of Christ Jesus. This lawyer who has filed charges against Hritik, is you close friend and the lawyer of Kangana Ranaut. You and this lawyer are trying to play dirty games by using the name of the pope and Catholic Community to settle your scores. Shame on you and this lawyer.

It was a stupid thing for him to say this. But then a lot of jokes are cracked on similar subjects in the West and nobody really bothers. This pope in particular would be least bothered about things like this.
