Udupi, Apr 1: The BJP has expelled five persons from the primary membership of the party for a period of six years for their participation in anti party activities. They are, president of Bommarabettu gram panchayat, Malati Acharya, Marne gram panchayat vice president, Karunakar Karkera, Kaup Mahila Morcha president, Sharada Poojary, Ramesh Anchan from Uchila, and Shashidhar from Kurkalu.

Sharada Poojary, Ramesh Anchan and Shashidhar have been accused of fighting taluk and zilla panchayat elections held recently against official candidates fielded by the party by entering the fray in the form of rebels, while Malati Acharya and Karunakar Karkera have been charged with campaigning against official candidates fielded by the party.

Kaup constituency BJP president, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, said that this disciplinary measure has been undertaken as per the instruction of the district BJP president.

Nayak also accused the Congress of making behind-the-scene efforts to postpone election to the newly formed Kaup municipality, sensing that there is favourable environment for the BJP to come to power. He said that normally elected representatives take over new local administrations within six months of their formation, duly accusing Congress of trying to run Kaup municiipal administration through the officials with the specific aim of keeping BJP at bay.
