Mangaluru, Apr 2: The timely response from Mangaluru fire service managed to douse the fire in the Pachanady dumping ward which could have turned into a major tragedy on Saturday early morning of April 2.

The fire initially was lit by the workers of the landfill at 10 am on Friday. Later when there were flames in the yard around at 1 pm, the locals called the lineman and shifted the TC to a safe zone. Once again the fire was found around 12. 30 am on Saturday. Upon receiving information, the fire personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire at three key places.

Speaking to Daijiworld, fire personnel said that the major fire came within the landfill and the JCB people have to fill more mud.

The in-charge of the landfill Mohan said that the fire was lit by someone within the dumping yard. "We require light and personnel to guard the landfill. But the MCC is refusing to give the electric connection within the landfill which will enable us to have watch over these accidents. The fire service personnel never answer our call or respond to it and hence we have to call up the MCC officials and then they call the fire service. This is the third time after February that the fire has appeared here. The MCC need to safeguard the yard boundary and only then there will be no such accidents." he also thanked Daijiworld for calling fire services.

The fire was doused and everyone present was relieved.
