Udupi: One dead, four injured as car hits another while overtaking bus

Udupi, Apr 2: One person was killed and four others seriously injured in a serial accident at Manjotti in Kondadi of Hiriadka here on Saturday April 2.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh Bhat (32) from Karkala.

It is learnt that Suresh Bhat and his wife were travelling to Anegudde Temple in Udupi from Karkala in a Ford Figo car when the accident took place.

Police sources said that the driver of a Nissan car tried to overtake a KSRTC bus plying towards Dharmasthala, and in the process, rammed head-on into the Ford Figo which was approaching from the opposite direction and also hit the bus.

The impact was such that Suresh Bhat was killed on the spot while his wife Kalpita sustained serious injuries. Three persons who were in the Nissan car were also seriously hurt, but their identities are yet to be ascertained. 

Sources said that passengers in the bus escaped unhurt.

Suresh Bhat was a priest at a temple in Neerebailoor. His wife has been admitted to a private hospital.

A case has been registered in Hiriadka police station.

    A very sad incident. One man's mistake caused the death of one person and injuring several passengers in both the cars. As it is the roads are bad and it is hard to squeeze in between two lanes.

    if I am not wrong, the Nissan is a Demo car of Excelsior Nissan and those sales utives drive so rashly. Also If i am not wrong many of those do not even have a licence to drive

    All 3 drivers are wrong here, govt buses drivers are king of roads, while these 2 cars driver were thinking they are smart.. If any car from opposite coming on ur way, just slow down n take a side.. Save ur life first/keep attitude at home..

    Drivers need to overtake when the view is clear....Why overtake when its risky??

    Happened to me last month when i was in Mlore and a reckless driver overtaking a bus in a sharp curve and me in opp direction!! It was touch and go moment...Thanks to Almighty all were safe

    Careless and high speed driving is the root cause of such accidents. ONE YOUNG life is lost for no fault of his. May his soul rest in peace.Such careless drivers to be charged with murder than with accident case where he will not get any punishment.
