Bengaluru, Apr 5: It is gathered that an environment of friction has arisen between the state governor and the government over tabling of Anwar Manippady report relating to mishandling of Wakf property in the state legislative council. Sources said that the governor, Vajubhai Vala, who fell short of directing the government to table the said report, addressed a letter to the government expressing his unhappiness about the way it conducted itself in this issue.

After the council chairman and opposition leaders complained to the governor about the government's failure to table the said report in the house after the council chairman directed it to do so, the governor had sought an explanation from the government. In response thereof, the chief minister had personally met the governor and explained the government's stand on the issue, but the governor was not convinced.

The governor, it is learnt, pointed out that the assurance given to the high court, statement made in the house, decision of the advisory committee on proceedings, and the ruling of the council chairman make it clear that the government had committed to table the report prepared by former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, Answar Manippady, on misappropriation of Wakf properties in the legislative council. Although the government claims to have rejected the report thereafter, it is not in order in claiming that report over steps taken on the recommendations contained in the report under rule 10 (2) has been submitted is improper, the governor reportedly stated.

"I am not happy about the way in which the government conducted itself in the case, even after the council chairman, in his ruling, asked it to table the report," the governor said in the letter, as per information.
