Honour killing: 19-yr-old Monica killed for having affair with Dalit

Mandya, Apr 5 (Agencies) : Mandya Police on Monday claim to have cracked the alleged murder case of a 19-year-old girl, whose body was found under mysterious circumstances in the city on April 3.

The deceased, identified as Monica was found hanging in a field in Mandya on April 3.

As per the reports, the 19-year-old girl, belonging to Gowda community, paid with her life for eloping with a Dalit boy.

According to police, Monica eloped with her boyfriend and apparently married him thereafter last month. However, she was traced by her family and was brought back home on March 30.

According to District superintendent of police Sudheerkumar Reddy, Monica's father and uncle tried persuading her to give her love for the Dalit boy and stay away from him as it would have brought bad name to the family.

However, she flatly rejected their requests after which the accused hatched a plan to kill her.

SP Reddy told the reporters, that her father and two maternal uncles, who were detained on Monday, admitted to murdering the girl and hanging her from a tree in a bid to make it appear like a suicide.

According to police, the family cremated her on their farmland in Timmana Hosur village in Mandya Taluk on early Sunday giving rise to suspicion. By the time the police reached the spot, the body was completely burnt leaving no proof behind.

"We repeatedly interrogated the family members separately for hours and there were many inconsistencies in their statements. After a while, Monica's father and her uncles admitted of their involvement in the crime," media quoted Reddy as saying.

No words to express on own parents /Family killing their flesh and blood and cremate after hanging. She did the mistake of eloping and marry a Boy out of her caste. But that doesn't mean they should kill her. They could atleast try to make their life a good turn. But now their Name has gone to gutter by killing own daughter. When they hanged her((to see as suicide)did any Police inspected and investigated?)how did they burn her without permission? They should be taken to Task and hang all of them.why govt make a rule ,when someone dies they should inform panchayat and get permission before cremating, like in katholic Religion?to avoid such Action ?RIP.girl.

Very sad story. The difference between Gowda and Dalit community will be reduced,if the father and uncles are kept inside for life long. Other Gowdas will learn lessons.

Whenever such things happen the family things that in society they will get a bad name and it is true. The bad name comes from their neighbors, relatives and friends who tease the elders of the family. This persuades the affected family to take dire steps. Therefore, we all should learn form this instance, whenever such cases arise, we need to our support to that family to avoid any disasters.

for those who wrote supporting the young couple. Just close your eyes and imagine it's your daughter and it happened to you and your family. Possibility that you will pause for a while. You may not completely change your mind, but you will pause for a while. What age is of the girl to see what's right and what's wrong. see the impact being a wife of a dalit guy. entire their further generation will be hanging in between 2 communities. We can say whats there in community or religion. but our each and every form / legal forms carry a column for the caste / religion. We are still not in a society which is cleaned up so much erasing the religion / caste. so, it may be the frustration of the parents which would have let them taking this drastic and in human step. YES, I do condemn this act. Just wrote about points because blindly it can not be questioned how and why did parents did that.

@Jossey.. I keep watching comments on all article & every now & then i see that, you drag any wrong things(anyone dies in an accident/anyone gets murdered) to "Acche Din" comments. You think all was good before ? Let me be clear, I'm not a supporter of any Political parties, nor I'm a fan of anyone!! but if some one is trying to make this country a better place to live, what hurts you? No surprise.. tomorrow if you happen to slip in the bathroom (God Forbids, should not happen)you may still say, "Aache Din"..!!Get a life Brother..!!

Every country, every person will face a bad day once in a while..that doesn't mean that, country is bad or person is no good..!

    Think & comment!!

Send the parents to gallows as they have taken away a young life from this world. What honor they will get now in the world rather than waiting for gallows to take them away too.

    1. You could have let go of her, thinking that in any case she was dead for you.
    2.Why did you kill her?
    3. What did you achieve now? New status in prison?
    4. Do you think you can be now absolved of the curse of the daughter who died yearning for the company of that boy??
5.How can a father be so cold blooded?
This Gowda has a lot to answer...
Are we really in the 21st century?

    Boy and girl are ok......?
Most of the families would try to safe guard their family status, standard' religion/cast and other aspects like boys financial worthiness etc. in order to ensure that their daughter is well settled in life instead of upholding only Love.

Ultimately the truth will unfold. if not now, in due course.
I feel the girl should have listened to her parents’ advise and could have settled in life in a better way.
Family prestige yes comparing the lover boy is a Dalit which out raged the parents but if they killed their own daughter that is not alright. UN -controlled anger and family prestige have culminated in such drastic step. She brought misery from all angles in the family.
Love but safe guard your family name, norms and respect in the society. Such love will end in Fake and lots of hardships if the boy could not afford to look after his wife with comforts she was brought up
There are incidents, where girl runs away the driver in the name of love!

It is really a shameful incidence for all of us.
The need of the hour is to seriously be a secular state, with no caste based differentiation at the government level. Government should all the caste based reservations, caste declaration on admission to schools etc. And most importantly a common civil code, which can totally eradicate the caste and religion bias in our society.

It's really very sad. If the boy and girl are ok then why parents oppose. But boys and girls also complete their education and find a job to settle down.
