Banks reject Vijay Mallya's Rs 4000 Cr offer, want him instead

New Delhi, Apr 7 (IT) : A consortium of banks led by State Bank of India today rejected business tycoon Vijay Mallya's proposal to repay Rs 4,000 crores of the Rs 9,091 crores he owes the banks.

The banks told the Supreme Court that Mallya should be physically present in the country for the negotiations and that he should disclose his own assets as well as those of his family for a fair deal.

The matter is to be heard again in two weeks.

In a statement issued last week, SBI had said, "The consortium of banks led by SBI confirms receipt of an offer for settlement of dues from Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. The bank along with other consortium members, will examine the same."

The repayment offer in the Supreme Court was submitted by Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines, United Breweries Holdings and Kingfisher Finvest India.
Sources at various banks said that they want a better offer from the company.

Of the total amount, the banks have so far recovered only around Rs 1,240 crore by selling pledged shares and other collaterals. The lenders have another Rs 1,250 crore to gain but the amount is blocked due to various court stays.

Last year, SBI declared Mallya as "wilful defaulter" for failing to repay the dues. Punjab National Bank also declared him, group holding company United Breweries Holdings and Kingfisher Airlines wilful defaulters last month.

The banks have put on block the brand Kingfisher for sale on April 30 with a base price of Rs 356 crore. When pledged as collateral, the brand Kingfisher was valued by Grant Thornton at Rs 4,100 crore in 2011 and the recently others have pegged it a paltry Rs 100-200 crore.

The banks' efforts at selling the Kingfisher House in the city on March 17 came a cropper as no bidder came forward to buy the property, which had a reserve price of Rs 150 crore.

It's like a game n a saying that goes : " You pretend to beat me up & I pretend to cry ".
Neither Govt will take him to task, nor will he be interested in settling this amount. If Govt was interested in recovering this money from Mallya, they would not have allowed him to leave this country, in 01st place. Now when he is offering 4000 crores, what stopped you from taking it, rather than just say NO n reject his partial money.
These big bank CMD, CEO & other top officials must be partners in crime with Mallya, else who will give such huge loans without proper security.
To ordinary Citizens like us, when we go for loans, we have to give a security, without which we dont get a single penny from banks as loan, forget so many crores. Only if it was some genuine person who lost business without his fault n was unable to repay, tell me which bank, which Govt would allow him to leave country so ceremoniously like Mallya has done. !!
So laws are only for us poor ordinary citizens, not for rich & wealthy is it? What stops our authorities from seizing his properties which run into Crores n crores all over the Globe.!!
Where there is a way to act n recover this money, there is a way for sure.!! Stop eye washing citizens & fleece us with taxes & let go Wealthy n wise..!!

It would have been wise for the banks to accept Rs4000 crore offer and also ask the court for his extradition. Why all this drama after allowing him to leave the country in glory? His companies have contributed to the nations' exchequer. Nevertheless he has to be tried in the court of law. What is the result of the complaint against Mallya referred to the Ethics committee of Parliament?

I think the banks have committed the second great blunder by rejecting this offer.
The lenders here are on week grounds. None of the Kingfisher Airlines, United Breweries Holdings and Kingfisher Finvest India are family owned businesses. They are all public companies, now Malya has very few of the shares with him. Banks have lent to these companies and not to the Individual called Vijay Malya.

So ultimately losing 4000 crores from their mouth, banks can get only 'Babaji ka tullu'!!!

Bull-t, when banks are not anyone's property, these CEOs of the bank take decisions that does not effect them. Those people who are managing the banks do not loose anything and they want to be the heroes. f you guys had braincells active, you would have accepted that 4000 crores first and give him time to pay the rest. At the end of the day, you will get everything back with interest. Why you guys want HIM, to give to Ramdev (he can practice to behead)?? Now go and catch him if you guys can. he will be another Lalit Modi and he gets humanitarian help, that's it.

Don't think banks are doing the right thing . He has paid crores of rupees as taxes when he was doing well and employed thousands. Please take the money and waving off the interest amount is something banks can afford to do but put a condition that he needs to pay back in full if he makes money in the future. Don't discourage entrepreneurs who lose money maybe because of some mistakes and misdeeds it does happen and can happen to anyone
