Ernakulam, Apr 9: In an incident which occurred at Angamali in Ernakulam district of the state in the early hours of Saturday April 9, a man allegedly butchered his wife and son with a sharp weapon, reportedly after finding them using the air-conditioner against his diktat.

Paul

Thomas and Mary

Mary (74) and her son, Thomas (54) from Angamali Karukutti were allegedly killed by Mary's husband, P T Paul (85). Paul, who tried to commit suicide thereafter, was stopped by his relatives from doing so, and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred at around 4 am on Saturday. Paul, it is said, was concerned at the fact that he had to shell out electricity bill of Rs 2,500 for the month of March this year because of use of air-conditioner by family members. Having been alarmed at this sudden increase in the power bill, he had left strict instructions to his close ones not to use air-conditioner.

However, when he woke up at around 4 am on Saturday and checked the room where his wife and son were sleeping, he was dismayed to find that the air-conditioner of the room was on. Having lost senses and patience, Paul immediately hit both his wife and son with sharp weapon and killed them when they were in deep sleep.

He thereafter called his daughter living at Chertala over cellphone and gave information about his dastardly act. He also tried to end his life. His daughter immediately contacted some local relatives over phone, after which they rushed to Paul's home. They saw what had happened, and handed over Paul, who was inside the house, to the police.

Paul is a retired employee of railway department. Thomas had married, but had divorced his wife thereafter and was living with parents.

Angamali police have registered a case and begun investigation.

I am sure there are many male head of the households out there. Who think that they are the only once in charge of the AC dial and they are the only one who can turn the AC "ON" or "increase the AC temperature"...

A ghastly act by the old man. For his age he should have solved the problem in a better way than to kill his wife and son. Now he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The son not footing the bills caused this old man to lose his temper.
With "mehengayi" & uncontrolled rise in cost of living added by declining interest rates & pension not keeping with inflation the old & retired people are finding it difficult to maintain their standard of living.
People of Kerala should decide whom to vote for in next election, whether to trust some Fekus with Jumlas or trusted old guards who are getting elected in rotation.

With Feku reducing interest rates by the day, retired people will have hard time making ends meet.

Many will be angered just the way Paul was angered.

Of all the things in the human heart, anger can be one of the most intense, destructive, and unhealthy emotions that we can experience. If not handled in the proper way, it can have drastic life-changing consequences. Anger may be caused by pressures of work, family or even from being the innocent victim of another’s wrong-doing. Left unresolved, anger creates an intense desire to destroy something.

To be angry is to yield to the influence of Satan. No one can make us angry. It is our choice. If we desire to have a proper spirit with us at all times, we must choose to refrain from becoming angry...Life is to short.

Such anger comes from demons. At the age of 85 its sad he could not control himself. RIP both. They are now in heaven. Sometimes such things happen. He could have spoken to them in the morning. Extreme case could be dismantling AC if bill was high. Is 2500 worth two lives.Anyways please control your anger...Giving into anger is anti Christian.

Very sad and unfortunate incident. Getting rs 2,500/- to pay for bill is easy, but he will not get back his wife and child. . Punishing him at this age for murder will not help anybody. May their souls rest in peace.
