Mangaluru, Apr 10: In an incident that proves honesty is still exists in society, an auto rickshaw driver on Sunday April 10 returned a bag containing gold and other valuables worth Rs 3.5 lac to its rightful owner.

Satish Shetty and his family arrived in the city from Mumbai by train on Sunday. At the Central railway station, they hired a prepaid auto rickshaw to go their house at Babugudde.

Soon after reaching home, Satish realized that he had left one of the bags in the auto rickshaw he had hired, but by then the auto had already left.

Satish and his family members then went back to the Central railway station and made enquiries. Unfortunutely, Satish had given away the prepaid token to the auto driver, so he had no way of knowing the identity of the driver. The family also contacted Tulunada Rakshna Vedike, whose members helped the family in their search.

The family could not locate the auto driver at the station. They then started enquiring with other auto drivers, but they too could not help him out initially. Satish told them that the bag contained an idol of Sai Baba. The auto drivers and members of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike then began enquiring with their colleagues if they had seen such a bag.

Finally, one of the auto drivers called his colleague named Dhananjay from Vamanjoor, and it turned out to be the right person.

Dhananjay said that a family had indeed left a bag in his auto rickshaw, and immediately he came to the railway station. He then met the family and returned the bag, with all its contents intact.

The bag contained gold ornaments, mobile phone, ATM cards and cash, altogether approximately worth Rs 3.5 lac.

A relieved Satish and his family appreciated the auto driver and suitably rewarded him for his honesty as well as Tulunada Rakshana Vedike for helping them out.
