Mangaluru, Apr  11: Large number of crowd gathered for Melwyn Peris Musical Nite held at Kulshekar church premises on Sunday April 10, for the aid of Shakthinagar new church building.

It was Melwyn’s 104th musical nite, but was the first at Cordel (Kulshekar) church premises where he started his musical journey. Melwyn is famously known as Yodelling King of Konkani music.

In the stage programme held before the nite, Melwyn Peris was felicitated by the parish priest of Cordel church Fr Victor Machado on behalf of the parishioners.

After accepting the felicitation, Melwyn Peris recalled his memories. “I spent most of my childhood days here as the Angelore parish was yet to be formed. I used to practice in the school next to Frad Saib hall, when I was studying here and that was when I won the first prize in singing at Don Bosco hall." Melwyn said.

"Even though I completed 100 musical nites, I had a sad feeling that none of them was held here where I started my musical journey. But today I have a feeling of satisfaction. I am also proud that the nite was held for a noble cause. Incidentally when I started my music here, the present parish priest Fr Victor Machado was the assistant parish priest. Initially I took music as a hobby. I just grabbed the opportunities I received. I used to just compose the songs whenever I found time and now it has become a history. I thank the pastoral council and parishioners of both Kulshekar and Shakthinagar parishes for giving me an opportunity." Melwyn added.

Speaking on the occasion parish priest of Kulshekar Fr Victor Machado said "It is a joyous occasion to see Melwyn reaching great heights. I have been seeing Melwyn since he was a kid. I wish that his musical journey continues and reaches greater heights. I thank all the people who have supported us including the sponsors in organising this programme."

The vice president of Kulshekar church parish council Praveen Patrao welcomed the gathering while parish priest of Shakthinagar church Fr Walter D'souza rendered vote of thanks.

The 50th music CD of Melwyn Peris 'Solpham Shivor' was released at the occasion. ‘Ugtehm Mon', a collection of essays written by Melvyn Rodrigues and published by Daiji Dubai publication was also released on the occasion.

Melwyn Peris started the nite with the song 'Turbenth Vazta' and paid homage to all the artists and composers of Konkani. Later along with Jerry Rasquinha and Canute, he also participated in comedy skits with punching dialogues to entertain teh crowd.

Rony D’Cunha, Anitha D'Souza, Shilpa Cutinho, Zeena Pereira, Nestor Peris, Rony Crasta, Jasmine, Simon, Ashwin D'Costa rendered their beautiful voices in the show.

Naach Sobhann added more spark with their amazing dance moves to some of the songs.

Melwyn Peris is the only composer and singer in Konkani after late Wilfy Rebimbus to complete the milestone of 100 musical nites and he is still continuing his musical journey.
